Pres. Trump to challenge birthright citizenship  

In an unprecedented move, the sham of “birth tourism” is also being targeted

What do Barbados, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Fiji, Guatemala, Honduras, Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago have in common with the United States? Not much, except they are among the 30 countries that offer birthright citizenship to anyone born to parents who are in those counties, legally or not.  Exceptions are foreign diplomats and wartime enemies.

Citizens of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras are those who have been caravanning by the hundreds of thousands, illegally invading the United States, which brings disrepute to their laissez-faire policies. No one wants in and their citizens want out.

President Trump’s announced on Tuesday that he is preparing an executive order to end birthright citizenship. His action will face legal challenges, but he stands on solid ground.

These nations repealed Birthright Citizenship in recent years:  Australia (2007), New Zealand (2005), Ireland (2005), France (1993), India (1987), Malta (1989), United Kingdom (1983), and Portugal (1981). Numbers USA has the complete list.

Here in the United States our policy regarding citizenship is found in the Fourteenth Amendment, enacted following the Civil War in 1868. Its honorable intent was to provide citizenship to freed African-born slaves and their American-born children.

Hans A. von Spakovsky a Senior Legal Fellow at the Heritage Foundation and a former Justice Department official addresses the issue in this clarifying article, “Birthright Citizenship — A Fundamental Misunderstanding of the 14th Amendment.”

He writes that American Indians and their children did not become citizens until Congress passed the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924, clarifying that citizenship by birth was not automatically conferred. Integral to the Fourteen Amendment are the key words, “a person born in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof.” Those in the United states illegally do not meet that threshold, since they are subject to the laws of their own counties.

The number of family unit aliens apprehended at the southern border has skyrocketed in recent years.

Family unit apprehensions have spiked from just 14,855 in fiscal year (FY) 2013 to 432,838 so far this FY – an increase of more than 2,800 percent.

More than 430,000 family unit aliens have been apprehended at the southern border so far in FY 2019 – a more than 300 percent jump from all of last FY.

There have been more family unit aliens apprehended at the southern border in the last three months – 184,000 – than all of last FY.

Not only is President Trump addressing birthright citizenship, he has begun unprecedented crackdowns on “birth tourism,” where thousands of affluent pregnant foreign women travel to the United States to give birth ensuring American citizenship for their children. They pay $multi-thousands to brokers who arrange their travel documents, accommodations, entertainment, shopping sprees and hospital stays.
