Ever since Elon Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of Twitter this past fall, the public have been treated to a masterclass in overhauling an injured tech behemoth. Under the regime of former CEO Jack Dorsey, many believed that Twitter had transformed into such a toxic cesspit of political censorship and corruption that it was simply beyond repair.
When asked about how he has been able to move so quickly in cutting extravagant costs and implementing new features, Musk admitted that this is a fine balancing act between very careful experimentation and post-hoc evaluation – the results of which may not be known for many months, or even years to come.
“I’m a big believer in you wanna look at the net output. So it’s what’s the batting average? If you’re, it’s like baseball. The point is not that you like He hit the bowl, but it’s how many home runs do you get and how, like what’s your actual….slugging percentage. It’s like you’ve gotta swing for the fences. You’re gonna strike out a bit more, but we’re gonna swing for the fences here at Twitter. And we’re gonna do it quickly. And I think generally, my error rate and being the ‘Chief Twit’ will be less over time. But in, in the beginning, we’ll make obviously a lot more mistakes and because….Hey, I just got here,” said Musk.
