Blood-vessel repair cells rose and artery function improved. It did not measure heart attacks or deaths. • Lab only (2005): researchers at Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, including Dr. Robert Dickson, found a purified cocoa compound slowed breast cancer cells growing in lab dishes. This was not a human treatment study. • Large human trial (2022): COSMOS, led by Dr. Howard Sesso and Dr. JoAnn Manson. 21,442 older adults took a cocoa flavanol extract or a placebo for about 3.5 years. No significant reduction in cancer. • Heavy metals: Consumer Reports tested 28 dark chocolate bars and found measurable lead and cadmium in every one.
