A video posted on YouTube of an giant anaconda reportedly vomiting up an entire cow has gone viral, garnering over 930,000 views on YouTube in  just six days.  The green anaconda or Eunectes murinus  is a non venomous boa species found in South America. It is the heaviest known snake species

A green anaconda can be seen writhing on a shallow river bed. The snake then proceeds to open its mouth and  puke an entire undigested carcass of the animal into the jungle swamp.  The green anaconda is one of the world’s longest snakes, reaching more than 6.6 m (22 ft) long. It is the largest snake native to the Americas and probably the heaviest extant species of snake

The video was posted on YouTube on November 23rd and was allegedly filmed in Brazil.  Anacondas and other snakes are known to vomit  their prey if they feel  threatened in order to make a quick escape if needed.

The South American snake is known to eat a variety of animals, from fish and birds, to deer and even jaguars and turtles.

Not everyone is believes the regurgitated dinner was a cow. Some YouTube commentators have said the creature might actually be a capybara, a large guinea-pig like rodent that is native to South America.  Others believe it may have been a goat.

The flexible ligaments of a green anaconda’s jaws mean they can swallow any animal whole, meaning that a small cow might not have been a problem to eat.

The animal in the video is too small to be anything but a baby cow, though, and is more likely a much smaller mammal — a goat, Frank Indiviglio, a former herpetologist with the Bronx Zoo who currently writes at ThatReptileBlog told Live Science.  Anacondas can’t eat an entire, full-grown cow: the largest animal documented to have been consumed by a constrictor is a 130-pound (59-kilogram) impala, eaten by an African rock python in 1955.

A kingsnake regurgitates a corn snake before ingestion is complete. Video recorded in the Brainerd lab of a California kingsnake regurgitating a cornsnake. From Jackson, Kley, & Brainerd (2004) How snakes eat snakes: the biomechanical challenges of ophiophagy for the California kingsnake, Lampropeltis getula californiae (Serpentes: Colubridae) Zoology Volume 107 Issue 3 http://www.brown.edu/Departments/EEB/brainerd_lab/pdf/Jackson-2004-Zool.pdf
