Central Veterinary Associates Warns Pet Owners of Nutro Recall

VALLEY STREAM, NY — Central Veterinary Associates is alerting pet owners of a recent recall from MARS Petcare of Brussels, Belgium. The company is pulling its Nutro Apple Chewy Treats for dogs from shelves due to potential mold contamination. In addition to the risks for pets, humans with certain health conditions may be subjected to mold allergy symptoms by handling the contaminated product.

The recall was initiated after MARS Petcare received a notification from the United States Food and Drug Administration that a routine surveillance sample of the four oz. Nutro Chewy Treats Apple tested positive for mold. The product was distributed throughout PetSmart locations nationwide.

The four-ounce containers of Nutro Apple Chewy Treats product with UPC: 7910511344 have been recalled and can be identified by the UPC and lot codes 4 50; 5 02; 5 03; and 5 05; regardless of “Best By” date.

There are no reports of illness in either people or animals associated with these products. Pets who have exposure to mold may experience clinical symptoms such as vomiting, agitation, walking drunk, tremors, seizures and severe secondary hyperthermia.
