In the 1970’s, a nine-year-old boy wiles away the sweltering summer hours in the fictional Acqua Traverse in southern Italy. While the neighborhood children play outside inventing ways to stay amused, the adults remain indoors seemingly oblivious to their offspring. The children eventually come to find their parents are certainly up to more tomfoolery than they could ever imagine.
After intentionally losing a game, Michele Amitrano is forced to enter a dilapidate farmhouse and finds a hole where he discovers a filthy Filippo Carducci chained in the bottom and promises to return to him. He shares his discovery with no one and when the dots are ultimately connected, the shocking truth forces Michele to grow up before his time.
The independent Michele Amitrano is a fierce protector of his sister and mother and always puts others before himself. His discovery of a kidnapped boy his own age tests his mettle and forces him to choose his family over his integrity.
Felice Natale is the embodiment of the town bully. The 20-year-old who torments both children and animals is feared by most but is also purported to not be as tough as the character he plays.
Leading the adults in Acqua Traverse, Sergio Materia orchestrates the kidnapping of Filippo Carducci and makes himself quite comfortable in the Amitrano home. Feared by all even as the oldest adult involved in the crime, he continues to give orders as things begin to fall apart.
Would have no problem traveling to Rome to meet Mr. Ammaniti and bombard him with questions about his upbringing and his creative methods. I’d try to reel in my adoration and keep things professional.
