Next's Generation "y" Financial Rep. Brightens Industry

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Sharewellnewswire.com) — The financial services industry is predominantly led by older advisors, whose years of experience surpass Louis Frates’ age by a minimum of 10 years. Frates, the youngest of 750 independent financial advisors at NEXT Financial Group Inc. (NEXT), is successfully bridging the gap between generation “x” and “y” in an industry commonly avoided by young people.

“It is unfortunate that more people my age are discounting the financial services industry as a viable option for a career path,” said Frates, a recent college graduate who acquired his Series 7 and 63 licenses to practice in the financial industry at the ripe age of 23. “Research has shown a significant decline in new representatives entering the industry for the past few years, and I am hoping to change that. With the wealth of knowledge I have gained from my coach and mentor, Steve Aquilino and team, I am certain I can positively impact the persona of the industry and slowly influence people my age to reconsider financial services as a contender for their careers.”

Frates, 24, originally joined NEXT as an employee, assisting the company’s acquisitions department acquire books of business for NEXT representatives to purchase early last year. Approximately three months after joining, he realized his true calling and traded his employee title for a representative identification number.

“I intend to breathe some life back into this industry,” said Frates, a 2011 graduate of George Mason University. “I not only want to help my parent’s generation realize their retirement potential, but help my generation understand the importance of saving now, in their early 20s, to achieve a level of security in their golden years that our parents are now struggling to even fathom.”

Although Frates may be young, his attitude toward his newfound profession is quite refreshing—something the industry has struggled to find since the unexpected market crash of ’08. Hopefully, with more and more college students entering the work force a few more Frates’ will find their way to the financial industry and help finally lay the “grey-haired” stereotype to rest.
