Salaries same as 1997 but no benefits

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Back in 1997 I was hired as an account executive for MGC Communications and the base salary was 30K plus commission. In 2000 I was hired at Nextlink Communications as an account executive and the base salary was 40K plus commission, and then in 2006 I was hired at Power Plus as an account Executive and the base pay was 50K plus commission. All of these companies gave full medical benefits and life insurance plus 401K.

It is now almost 2014 and I work for another company which is more stable because these other companies are a revolving door and the account reps last 6 months to 2 years tops and then the employee goes on performance improvement plan when the sales quota is below 70% for 3 months in a row.

So to sum it all up, now I make 30K plus commission and no benefits. Most of those other jobs are long gone or commission only jobs now. I am not complaining, but it shows that salaries have stayed the same in the private sector for almost 20 years in fact they have gone down, while public workers make 2 to 3 times more and receive unsustainable pensions paid by the tax revenue from people like me.

If you do the math in California, the pension obligation will be 3 times the tax revenue in 5 years. This system and economy is awesome …. not
