Products de-reserved for MSMEs

New Delhi, (KNN) The Minister of State for MSME, Giriraj Singh, today informed the Upper House that the government recently de-reserved the last 20 of the items that had been kept aside for exclusive production by micro and small enterprises.

The move had paved the way for their large scale production and removing hurdles in the way of these enterprises to become bigger.

The items were reserved for MSMEs to protect the small and medium enterprises from competition. The list was brought down from 800 items to 20 items. The items that were de-reserved range from pickles and chutneys to bread, laundry soap, steel almirahs and chairs, and stainless steel utensils.

“On the recommendation of the Advisory Committee on reservation constituted under the provisions of the Industries (Development & Regulation) Act, 1951, Govt. of India, vide notification no. S.O. 998 (E) dated 10.04.2015, has de-reserved the remaining 20 items from the erstwhile list of items reserved for exclusive manufacture in SSI (now-Micro and Small Enterprise) sector,” Singh said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha today.

Review of the list of items reserved for small scale (now-Micro and Small Enterprise) sector is a continuous process. The Advisory Committee considers de-reservation of items to achieve economies of scale, technological upgradation, competitiveness and to counter cheap imports, he added. (KNN Bureau)
