UK Solopreneurs Are Becoming More Successful Than Ever!

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

It seems everyone and their grandma has an entrepreneurial edge to them in the modern day. Which means that setting out as a solopreneur isn’t the easiest of tasks, especially as you may find yourself up against some stiff competition (grandma doesn’t play nice). Success, then, needs to be found in the little moments. The ‘almost’ opportunities that many others will miss.

So, what tips will serve you best as a hard working solopreneur in the modern day?

Take Charge

When a new opportunity comes knocking on your door it’s no good to walk to answer it. You have to run, you have to set up an automated door opener or anything that will give you an edge to answer faster than a competitor. Taking charge is vital, as it means you stand out from your competition and shows you have an edge.

Many people will find failure due to the fact that they don’t try hard enough, or simply don’t act when an opportunity waltzes through the door. Don’t be that person: act!

Keep Building Your Skills

The skills you build in life are important, as they help to land you the client’s and contracts that will be meaningful to you as a solopreneur. But, as a solopreneur you will also need a whole host of other skills in order to make your budding business work.

Managerial skills, accounting and even writing (emails count) will be part of your day to day life. Keeping these skills both up to date and learning more is vital to your role of being a entrepreneur and business owner. The more that you learn, the better you will become at the business road you have chosen to take.

Experience is also a great teacher. Learn from your successes, thrive on your failures and all that other inspirational talk. The more lessons you learn along the way, the richer the road.

Set Financial Goals

Money is essential to any business, but especially when you are a budding solopreneur. You want to ensure that it is both spent wisely and there’s enough of it to keep you going. Which means that financial goals are vital, both for you and your business.

Regular goals for revenue and growth are a part of any business, not just solopreneurs. It helps to ensure that your business is continually growing and expanding, not just as a way to measure if you have any or not. Independence is a great benefit of a solo business, but you need to still treat it with the importance of a full-blown business too. As well as setting achievable financial goals, it’s important to make sure that you are also protecting yourself financially, by taking out PI insurance, which will cover all of the legal costs should anything go wrong.

Make Your Home Office Productive

Working from home offers a lot of great things, flexibility and a lack of commute come to mind. It also happens to offer a world of distractions. From television to the even cleaning, there are plenty of things that you can distract yourself with instead of working. It’s a pain, but something all too many people can relate to. Which is why making your home office productive should be step number one.

Good ways to ensure productivity in your home office include; decluttering your desk to create less distractions, a to-do list in plain sight at all times, set up shop in the quietest section of your home, and, finally, take regular breaks that allow you to indulge in distraction.

If you don’t think working from home will be feasible for you – too distracting, not enough space or whatever – then a coworking space may be your best alternative. They are relatively cheap and can get you away from home during the day to ensure you do some work. Not always a good option for everyone, but perfect if you need a desk away from home in order to work at.

Take a Break

Being a solopreneur comes with a lot of responsibility, especially when it comes to paying your bills and other financial commitments. But, it doesn’t mean that you need to be all work, work, work and no play! No only did that make Jack a dull boy, it can lead to a lot of stress and poor quality of life for everyone else too.

It’s too easy to spend all of your time working on your business efforts instead of your own wellbeing and mental health. Have a weekend away every once in a while, take yourself on a walk at lunch time instead of working with a sandwich in hand and give yourself five minutes on your phone just having fun.

There’s no point building a successful business if doing so drives you to be ill from stress and working too much.

At the end of the day, your solopreneur efforts rely on a lot of self discipline and setting yourself on a path of discovery. Which includes new skills, better budgeting, even a day off every now and again. Being a solopreneur can be a lot of work, but the best tip you can find is to not let it take over your life!
