Google May Quit China

Google may pull up stakes from China, according to a report from Reuters.  The Chinese government has made it impossible for outside internet companies to do business in the country.  This follows new regulations that force licensing and other restrictions on video hosting services like You Tube.   Censorship was so severe that Google had to build a separate search catalog for China that did not include such things as the photograph of Tienanmen Square with the man in front of the tank, or any pages that mention Falun Gong, a popular spiritual group that is banned in China.  According to Reuters,

Google said the hackers had tried to access the Gmail email accounts of Chinese human rights activists, but only managed to access two unidentified accounts, and then only headlines and other data such as when an account was created.

It did not say what information the hackers tried to access from the other corporations, nor which they were. Google said it was working with the U.S. authorities

“We have decided we are no longer willing to continue censoring our results on Google.cn, and so over the next few weeks we will be discussing with the Chinese government the basis on which we could operate an unfiltered search enginewithin the law, if at all,” Google said in a statement.

“We recognize that this may well mean having to shut down Google.cn, and potentially our offices in China.”

They should shut it down for two reasons; first, the Chinese Communist Party, which runs everything in China, is completely evil and has been responsible for the deaths of at least 70 million people since 1947.  The other reason has more to do with business and that is the CCP will not allow a foreign company to make or keep any of their profits generated in China.

Google has apparently had enough and figured it out:

The Internet giant didn’t go so far as to accuse the Chinese government, but that seemed to be the allusion. Announcing it will stop cooperating with China over censorship, Google said it acknowledges that it may have to pull out of the world’s most populous country.

If they stop cooperating with the CCP over censorship, they will be banned from the country.  They’d better get all their servers out before they are impounded (stolen).
