We’ve been eating meat for 1.5 million years, discovery of ancient child’s skull proves
A skull fragment discovered in Tanzania shows that our ancient ancestors have been eating meat for at least 1.5million years.
Anthropologists unearthed the two inch fragment of a human skull at the ‘the cradle of mankind’ — Olduvai Gorge in northern Tanzania.
Charles Musiba, associate professor of anthropology at the University of Colorado in the U.S. who helped make the discovery, said: ‘Meat eating has always been considered one of the things that made us human, with the protein contributing to the growth of our brains.
‘Our work shows that 1.5 million years ago we were not opportunistic meat eaters, we were actively hunting and eating meat.’
