Mormonism Finally Proven to be a Hoax

Nobody knows more about the Mormon Church than I do, because I used to be a Mormon.  I am glad that there is finally evidence to back up my suspicions that the Church was founded upon falsehoods.

A Brief History of the Church

The Church founder is said to be God the Father and God the Son, Jesus Christ, through his prophet, Joseph Smith, Jr.  The Church was formally organized on April 6, 1830 in Palmyra, New York; however, a lot happened before then.

When Joseph was fifteen, he went from church to church, trying to find the right one.  One night, Joseph was up late reading his Bible by candle-light when he was impressed by a verse of scripture in James, that said, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”  (James 1:5).  He resolved to get up early the next morning, go to a grove of trees nearby and pray, which he did.  As to what happened in that grove of trees, I will give his very own words:

“After I had retired to the place where I had previously designed to go, having looked around me, and finding myself alone, I kneeled down and began to offer up the desires of my heart to God. I had scarcely done so, when immediately I was seized upon by some power which entirely overcame me, and had such an astonishing influence over me as to bind my tongue so that I could not speak. Thick darkness gathered around me, and it seemed to me for a time as if I were doomed to sudden destruction.

“But, exerting all my powers to call upon God to deliver me out of the power of this enemy which had seized upon me, and at the very moment when I was ready to sink into despair and abandon myself to destruction–not to an imaginary ruin, but to the power of some actual being from the unseen world, who had such marvelous power as I had never before felt in any being–just at this moment of great alarm, I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me.

“One of them . . . said, pointing to the other—‘This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!’

“It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—‘This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!’

“My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)–and which I should join.

“I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: ‘they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof.’

“He again forbade me to join with any of them; and many other things did he say unto me, which I cannot write at this time. When I came to myself again, I found myself lying on my back, looking up into heaven. When the light had departed, I had no strength; but soon recovering in some degree, I went home.”

The Book of Mormon

Well, that’s what started it all, the first vision.  After that, Joseph began to receive visitations from an angel called, “Moroni” who told him about some golden plates buried in the nearby mountains.  Moroni told Joseph smith that he should wait until the appointed time, retrieve the plates and translate them.  Long story short, that became the Book of Mormon.

Why is it called the Book of Mormon?

Well, Moroni was the last prophet of the people of the book.  His father, Mormon, had complied all the records of his people and abridged them into one set of plates.  Moroni added a little bit at the end, but since Mormon was the one who had completed the monumental task of abridging all the records into one volume, the book was named after him.

The interesting thing is that the angel took the plates back after the translation was complete.  No one was allowed to see the plates, except Joseph.  [How convenient, huh?]

But Wait!  What about the Three Witnesses?

There were allegedly three witnesses who saw and handled the plates.  Their names are not important.  The important things is that they signed a legal affidavit attesting to the fact that they had seen and handled the plates at the hands of the angel Moroni, (after Moroni had taken them back).  Two of the three witnesses later left the Church and never went back.

The Mormons say that even though they left the Church, they never withdrew their testimony (affidavit).  [Clever Church and Clever men!  Had they withdrawn their affidavit, they could have been prosecuted for perjury.  I think they knew that.]

The point is that there has never been any way to disprove the Church, because there haven’t been any golden plates to examine.

Ah!  But there’s more!

It doesn’t end there.  Not long after the Church was officially organized, some man came into town with three Egyptian mummies and some papyrus roles, looking for a buyer.  The Mormons in town knew that Joseph Smith could translate ancient writings, so they took the man to Joseph Smith, who put together the money to purchase the mummies and papyri.  Immediately, Joseph set about to translate them.

That became the Book of Abraham, which is a crucial part of Mormon canon thereafter.  It tells of Abraham’s version of the creation, which reveals a great deal more than the Book of Genesis does; and a lot of Mormon theology stems from the Book of Abraham. 

After Joseph Smith was killed by an angry mob, his widow, had to sell the mummies and papyri to survive.  She sold them to a collector.  For all this time, until recently, we thought that the papyri were in the Chicago museum; and when the museum burnt down in the great Chicago fire of 1871, we thought that they were lost forever.  Well, guess what we found?

“While doing an inventory of some Egyptian artifacts in the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, the curator came upon some papyrus scrolls, in fragments, that were accompanied by a letter, signed by Joseph Smith’s widow, Emma Smith Bideman,” wrote Dan Eden for viewzone.com.

We know so much more about Egyptian writing today.  Scholars have looked at the papyri, and say that it has nothing to do with Abraham.  It is about Anubis conducting the Egyptian burying ritual on Osiris.

What of the future of the Church?

Many have left the Church as a result of this recent development.  Many more will leave as they become aware of it.  The Church will do its best to suppress the story, and if it does come out big time, they will explain it away as they always do.  The so-called “stalwart” Mormons will stay true to their faith, and they will say that the ones who left were weak in their faith.

Why did I leave the Church?

I was born and raised in the Church.  Not many of us born into the faith actually leave it, because it is so ingrained into our brains that it becomes a matter of fact, not something ever questioned.  I left because I realized that Joseph Smith was an epileptic, an undiagnosed epileptic.  If you know anything about the disease, you know that epileptics are prone to seizures.  There are petite mal seizures, where one just appears to fall asleep at the drop of the hat.  And there are grand mal seizures, where one begins to convulse uncontrollably.  The disease has been around for millennia.  In ancient Greece, it was called the “Sacred Disease”, because it was often accompanied by visions, which were thought to be sent from the gods.  If you re-read Joseph Smith’s own account of what transpired in the ‘sacred grove’, you will begin to see that it sounds identical to a grand-mal seizure.
