Jesus Christ Was 'Invented' by the Romans Say Scholars in New Report
Two historians, American Joseph Atwill and the UK’s Kenneth Humphreys, will hold a symposium in London on Oct. 19, at which, they say, they’ll present new evidence that Jesus Christ never existed and that Christianity and the Gospels are fabrications invented by Roman Caesars of the first century.
The two scholars claim the plot was conceived as a means to redirect violent Jewish revolt against Roman authority into a peaceful (thereby ineffectual) movement, designed to control the hearts and minds of the Jewish population, and subverting rebellion against Rome without employing increasingly resource-draining military and political tactics.
And, they claim, it worked brilliantly then and continues to do so.
The symposium, titled “Covert Messiah” will be held at London’s Conway hall, and intends to reveal years of research by Atwill and Humphreys (among others) concluding that the story of Jesus is an entirely fictional plot, drawn from contemporary, first century sources, and was an exercise in psychological warfare which succeeded beyond the wildest dreams of its original authors.
During the conference, Atwill and Humphreys intend to prove that this exercise was conceived as a means to end what was then an effective strategy by first century Messianic Jews to violently resist Roman Polytheism, a concept they found abhorrent.
According to the controversial theory, a brutal regime of Roman Caesars, now known as the Flavians, concocted the scheme after repressing Jewish revolt and was enacted as a means to stop further violent rebellion by turning Jewish opposition inward and redefining the nature of an, historically, militaristic Messiah into a more modern version of a holy man of peace.
A linchpin of the plot, claim the authors, was to advance the revolutionary concepts of a Messiah embracing the now well-known messages of “giving unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, turning the other cheek, and loving your enemy.”
According to statements on the organizers’ website publicizing the event, the crucial aspect of the theory “focuses on the documents the Flavians left behind which prove their authorship of the Gospels. (Atwill and Humphreys) deconstruct the Gospels and the character Jesus, showing that they are based on archetypes found in the ancient pagan mystery schools and in earlier Jewish literature.”

The entire premise of the two ‘historians’ (so-called) requires, of course, that all of Judaism and all of the beliefs of the Ancient Israelites (did they exist?) are also an invention of the Caesars. This is because there are, contained in the writings of the Hebrew Tanakh, THREE-HUNDRED and SIXTY FIVE prophecies of the coming of the Man who supposedly never existed.
So the premise of the two ‘historians’ (so-called) either falls of its own dead weight, or it needs to be vastly expanded to impugn the much larger and much older body of writing, known as the Hebrew Tanakh, the entire Old Testament of the Christian Bible.

Something else largely missed is the absence of refutation in the historic record, or in the actions of such as the apostles. Christianity would have just died as a fraud, surely a record left by such as an apostle or disciple of Jesus it was all craziness or a fake, people all over Jerusalem saying the Lord didn’t really appear to many, risen from the grave, didn’t work any miracles, etc. It was the opposite, the leadership having a terrible time getting around the power Jesus Christ displayed, His growing following throughout the region, never saying He didn’t do these things, rather He did them by devilish powers. Just the account of how the Pharisees dealt with the Roman soldiers guarding the tomb verifies they had a problem with explaining the “missing” body the Romans were guarding, at a sealed tomb! Apostles went on to die some very bad deaths, spreading the word of what they were eyewitnesses of, and people, who are not liars in the first place by faith, don’t suffer all sorts of persecution and go down martyrs over jokes. The likes of Peter did not just go back to his family and fishing, which they’d all have done the likes of, had Jesus Christ just died: obviously, Christianity would have died, were the Lord Jesus just some cheap magician or fraud who came along. But the record reflects none of these things, by its content of eyewitness truth and the real psychology of truth, credibility in every detail behind the accounts of people involved. Any fool who understands a courtroom drama should understand these things, if Christ were put on trial for being the real thing, witnesses would have been available to line up around the block, even people He had healed everybody knew as blind or lame, and He would have been convicted of being who it’s claimed in the Bible, easily, way beyond any reasonable doubt. And again, there’s no record Jesus Christ was a fraud, rather a large record the opposite, that He was demonstrably of the mind as well as power of God. It’s the fool who fails to see these things, right there in the Bible record,

You are wrong, the premise doesn’t need to be expanded. Falsifying the NT and creating the figure of Jesus would not require the Romans to falsify the OT, in fact the belief in the validity of the OT would only make it easier for them to reveal the forged NT to the masses.

If this is true then why were The Gospels not written in Latin from the start?

I also read somewhere recently that the Greek intellectuals of the early first century argued about the validity of Christ’s resurrection, not about whether He existed or not.
