The future of SBC Tomorrow

I owe an explanation to those faithful few who follow SBC Tomorrow (peterlumpkins.com). I’ve fairly well neglected to systematically post on this site for over a year and a half. While my practice up until my taking the vice presidential role at Brewton-Parker College was to post at least three times a week, since then, my practice dropped to averaging perhaps one post every 14-20 days. Normally, that’s death to a blog. Amazingly however, much of my readership has still hung around. Without posting new and current articles, the site still averages well over 600 page views a day.

With all of that as a backdrop, know I have every intention in “resurrecting” the blog so to speak. There’s not only a ton of historical materials I’d like to post as downloadable pdfs, but also some of the more important current issues beg for commentary. And while I possess no desire to enter full force into denominational politics again–a practice in which I gladly participated prior to my brief tenure at Brewton-Parker College but which, because of convictional principle, I avoided when possible while an employee of a Baptist institution–there are issues presently affecting all Southern Baptists which I will not deny those many who disagree with the public majority of Southern Baptist spokesmen/women an entry in the public record.

My wife and I are now in Arkansas. I took an executive pastor position in the local church.¹ God has been so gracious to me through the years. Since my call to ministry in 1978, He has continued to whittle on my life, carving out one unexpected groove after another, making me into the man I’ve become. I’m nowhere near what He ultimately wants me to be but I’m surely not what I was in 1978. All glory belongs, and rightly so, to He Who sits on the throne forever and ever. Amen.

Thus, thus latest leg of ministry in Kingdom work affords me the opportunity to write more, writing including not only “resurrecting” the thrust of SBC Tomorrow, but also penning some more books. I have several more books in me that, God willing, will be in print before our Lord calls me home.
