A Reaction to Current Events

I see the world as it is right now, and I say to myself that the world is being set up for the coming of the Messiah.  A lot of people don’t see it this way.  I understand this perfectly.  But really, when it comes to sexual assaults, I say that laws are laws.  But generally speaking, and I use the word “generally” rather liberally, God doesn’t really care about sexual sins that do no harm.  But as I have said, laws are laws.  I got in trouble by more than one person on Twitter when I said that women and cars have been part of the advertising for the auto industry from the beginning.  And I was labeled as a chauvinist.  But I was just making a point.  The discussion was whether women should be used in auto advertising particularly at auto shows.  Well, I am showing my age when I say they have always been associated together.  Women ans cars are what car advertising is all about.  Or historically has been.  But that doesn’t mean I don’t think times have changed.  And they have.  But then maybe we need to do away with cheerleaders at football games.  Or maybe we need to do away with a lot of things associated with sex.  I am not saying this should be done, but I am just saying that back in my day, men did the purchasing of products.  Women sold beer to men.  Women sold after shave to men.  In fact, there wasn’t a product made that wasn’t associated with sexiness sold to men by women. 

My point is, that in the #metoo era, things have changed quite dramatically.  We don’t need or want women selling products to men buyers.  And maybe things will change.  I say “maybe.”  I don’t know.  It’s just that historically, I was raised on the idea that women sold products to men.  I can think of all kinds of commercials from the age of television until recently when women were used to advertise products to men.  And now, men don’t even know how to romance a woman any longer without a woman thinking all a man wants from her is sex.  So, men have to decide how to approach women for mating, and I mean either marriage, dating, or even sex. 

I am just saying that my generation didn’t face these challenges as men today face.  And a lot of men my age are losing jobs over actions that have taken place in the work place for more than one generation.  Times have changed.  And men need to realize this is NOT the same world as it was.  It’s just a way of life.  Things do change.  I am not expecting to go to auto shows seeing women advertise cars.  The bathing suit competition has been removed from the Miss America contests.  And I am sure there will be more changes as women are empowered.  It works both ways.  Fabio sold a lot of books to women.  And Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a sex symbol for some women.  How we work these issues out among ourselves doesn’t matter to God, really.  As long as sex sins do no harm.  What matters to God is whether we can live with ourselves.  Some people can make living with one’s sins incredibly difficult.  It takes a tough skin if wants to be challenged by others in today’s world.  I understand this perfectly.  But it seems to me that what is missing most in today’s world is dialogue.  Some people just don’t have a chance to explain their positions.  I think that is too bad.  A lot of people seem to want to talk, but it’s getting harder and harder to listen in today’s world.  I think that is what is sad.  If you are reading this, then I thank you for “listening” to what an “old” guy has to say.  Peace.  I am Brother Ralphie writing for my Angels from The Angels of Life Institute.  Brother Ralphie works from his study for the promotion of Peaceful living and inner Peace with God.
