Drivers License scanned for cigs, I'm in the system now

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Houston, TX 77085 – 7:20 PM, June 22, 1014

Timewise #124 (Chevron), 8495 S Sam Houston Parkway

I needed some cigarettes and gas, so I went to the Chevron station down the street. Before the cashier would take my cash, he asked for my Texas DL, no problem I thought. They ID everyone now for cigarettes and beer, even people with greying hair like mine. Before I could get the entire sentence “what the heck are you doing?” out, the cashier scanned my DL without even looking at it. He said Chevron is now scanning DL’s in order to verify the age requirements for the sell of cigarettes and beer.

It’s the first time I’ve ever had my DL scanned at a store, ever.  Maybe I’m overreacting (probably not though) but I wanted to pass this along and see if other people have been subjected to this or have known about this. Thanks for your input.

Yes- two 7-11′s in my town do it, but one does not, I am not sure why. Of course, the Walmart here scans also.

I was a cashier at a convenience store in 1998 -2003, and we were scanning licenses for beer and ciggs even then. If you look under 30 yrs. old was the policy. This was in Arizona, there were stings for alcohol and tobacco that could cost the store up to $10,000 in fines for underage sales so, that’s basically why, plus the employee would be fired, fined, and possibly arrested for selling to a minor.
