Copy Cat Orange Julius Smoothie Recipe {Naturally Sweetened, Dairy Free} #SundaySupper
We didn’t get sugary sweets very often when I was little which of course seemed like a burden then but a restriction I am grateful for now. Once a month my mom would walk me and my two younger sisters and little brother down the street to the Quickie Mart for a slushy and a candy bar OR take us to the mall for a special treat. I ALWAYS chose an Orange Julius Smoothie. My younger, less knowledgeable siblings sometimes opted for a Cinnabon.
The indulgences we are allowed as children aren’t always so forgiving on the body when we become adults. What I once thought was a healthy, fruity treat later revealed itself as a sugar loaded indulgence. But after years of abstaining, I sorely missed my special monthly treat and set out to make it myself minus all of the sugar and artificial flavors.
It turned out to be quite simple thankfully and I can whip up an ice cold, frothy “Orange Julius” any time I get the hankering for one and not feel the least bit guilty about it! Turns out all of the added sugar isn’t necessary to accomplish the sweet, natural, delicious taste.
TIME 10 MINUTES SERVES 6You Will Need
1 can frozen, no sugar added orange juice concentrate
1 can Coconut Cream1 cup water
1 teaspoon real vanilla
2 cups ice cubes
Optional (I always use) 2-3 small pieces orange peel for extra zingy flavor and vitamins
Putting it all Together
In a blender combine all ingredients. On high power, blend until smooth and frothy. Serve immediately!
