He also reads the new Treasury appointments as policy: David Zervos on financial repression, Stephen Miran on a dollar that is too strong, Judy Shelton on gold, and a government that took in five trillion dollars in tax revenue while spending seven. Macleod barely looks at that chart. In his reading gold did not fall at all. The dollar rallied, the long term trend is still down and accelerating, and the rising cost of fuel and food will squeeze a private sector that cannot pass those costs on. That leaves the Fed facing rising consumer prices and a slowing economy at the same time. He warns that private equity is coming unstuck as cheap debt refinances at today’s rates, that higher yields make life very difficult for banks, and that in a real liquidation mining shares get hit harder than bullion. His core point for ordinary savers is simple: only about zero point three percent of all portfolios own gold, and after fifty five years of pure fiat money most people have forgotten that gold is real money without counterparty risk.
