Taiwan against Bitcoin ATM, Malaysia against regulation

There is regular news from the Asian region. Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) has stated it will prevent the installation of Bitcoin ATMs in country. Zeng Mingzong, FSC chairman, made the statement in an interview with the Central News Agency (CNA).

«Central Bank and FSC recently released a joint statement warning against bitcoin. According to the Central Bank, bitcoin is not a currency; financial institutions and the public shouldn’t use it as medium of payment».

American company Robocoin recently announced plans to expand into East Asian markets. The company plans was to install ATMs in Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Malaysia’s Central Bank, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), also published its statement about Bitcoin. It is posted on the official website of the BNM.

«The bitcoin is not recognised as legal tender in Malaysia. The Central Bank does not regulate the operations of bitcoin. The public is therefore advised to be cautious of the risks associated with the usage of such digital currency».
