Infographic: Best Jobs for 2016 and the Best Cities for Those Jobs

Just in time for the start of the first full week of 2016, we’ve produced an infographic that shows the best jobs for the new year, and the best cities for those jobs. Emsi and CareerBuilder grouped occupations in two categories—those that typically require at least an associate degree and those that don’t require a degree (but may require a postsecondary certificate).

We determined the “best” occupations by looking at a number of data points: the gap between unique job postings and hires, median hourly wages, and percentage job growth. We then found the metropolitan statistical areas in which those jobs have grown the fastest from 2010 to 2015 and have a solid presence.Another way to think about this list? Software developers, long-haul truck drivers, and the other jobs that made the cut will be among the most in-demand jobs in 2016 based on job ads far outweighing hiring and their very solid recent growth. Meanwhile, the metros listed are places where these jobs have taken off post-recession.Read more about these jobs and our analysis in Fast Company.
