How Do You Destroy a Nation?

Let’s just talk about two lies:

• A rioter threw a fire extinguisher and struck a capitol police officer with it, causing him to die. This was a lie. It was run by all the major media and only retracted after it was released that the officer, who did in fact die, had no trauma of any sort to his head or any other part of his body. It appears he died of a stroke, although that’s not clear. What is clear is that he was not killed by a thrown (or any other) projectile during the “riot” on January 6th causing an injury that led to his death. It was a lie that was politically convenient for the media to use in order to gin up hatred of people who were doing the rioting. This lie was circulated for five weeks by print, online and television media outlets; ultimately only a tiny little printed correction was issued in one paper.
• Trump allegedly told Georgia elections investigators to find the fraud and that she would be a national hero if she did, effectively issuing what the media ran with as an “order” to overturn the results. This in fact led to, in no small part, Trump’s impeachment the second time around. This was a lie. Trump said no such thing; he did not state that she would be a “national hero” if she overturned the election. What he did do was urge her to scrutinize the Fulton County ballots and that she would find “dishonesty” if she did, and that she had the most important job in the country. Note that this was where ballots were observed on video being hauled out from under tables after counting was stopped when it was falsely claimed a water main had broken — in fact a toilet overflowed (or was, perhaps, caused to overflow?) Incidentally the original “bad actor” in this case appears to have been the GA SoS office which secretly recorded the call and the Washington Post did not demand to hear it; they either simply took an unnamed source’s word for it or perhaps they made it up themselves. This lie was only exposed because an open records request resulted in the original recording being found in a laptop “trash” folder.
