Culver campaign gets it (half) right!

(URBANDALE) – In response to Gov. Branstad’s South Korean free trade policy, which would boost exports by 20 percent and create nearly 13,000 new Iowa jobs, Gov. Culver’s campaign manager Donn Stanley stated the following in various media reports: 

“It’s a great idea. That’s why we’re already doing it.” 

FACT:                    “It’s a great idea.”

FICTION:              “That’s why we’re already doing it.” 

Branstad 2010 campaign manager Jeff Boeyink responded with a few questions for team Culver: 

1. If you’re already doing it, why haven’t the 12,600 jobs materialized in Iowa?
2. If you’re already doing it, why didn’t Gov. Culver get his own party in Congress to ratify the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement for the past THREE YEARS?
3. If you’re already doing it, why couldn’t Gov. Culver get his own party’s president to ratify the agreement in the past TWO YEARS?
4. If you’re already doing it, why doesn’t Iowa have a fully-operational trade office in South Korea, and offering a huge, valuable Iowa trade footprint there?
5. If you’re already doing it, why did unemployment climb by 55,000 and nearly double during your administration? 

“We anxiously await the Culver camp’s response on why they are not doing our great idea,” concluded Boeyink.
