Six items that explain a great deal in Canada, and world wide: Links 1 on Nov. 21 – 2015

1. Another crop of muslims travelling on fake or stolen documents are caught in Latin America on their way into the USA

(Thank you Fausta for tipping us and translating this video)

2. A few of you listened to the monthly round up radio program I join in on, last Tuesday of every month where I offered my purely speculative opinion about how the last election went and why.

An astute reader of this site pointed me to today’s edition of a free daily, which contains two articles that could be interpreted as being data points for that theory, specifically that some kind of deal may have been reached between islamic community leaders and the then, leader of the Liberal party, now prime minister.

2a. Muslim voter turnout jumps in 2015 election, poll finds

Estimated 79 per cent of Canadian Muslims voted in the federal election, up from 47 per cent in 2011

Nearly four out of every five Canadian Muslims voted in the 2015 federal election, a significant increase in voter turnout from 2011, a new poll shows.

The Mainstreet Research poll shows an estimated 79 per cent of Muslims voted in last month’s federal election, compared to about 47 per cent in 2011.

The turnout number exceeds the overall national turnout, which was 68 per cent.

The poll was commissioned by The Canadian-Muslim Vote, a grassroots, non-partisan organization that worked for months to get out the vote in the Muslim community.

“It certainly exceeded our expectations,” said Moe Ladha, the group’s associate director. “When we set out, we were hoping to at least achieve something closer to the national average.”

The group set out to explain the importance of voting and civic engagement by “communicating with people in their language through channels that they trust,” Ladha said.

They spoke with imams at 75 mosques across Canada, who helped promote the message of civic engagement to their congregations through Friday sermons.

“That encouragement – coming through imams, mosques, and channels people could connect with – really reduced the barriers to voting,” Ladha said.

2b. ‘Unprecedented’ surge in Muslim vote in federal election: poll

Mohammed Hashim could tell this election was different.

In past years, the community activist said it was difficult to find members of the Muslim community interested in volunteering, helping on election campaigns, and opening their wallets to support candidates. Even harder, was to get people out to vote.

“I have worked every campaign, municipal, provincial and federal since 2001,” said Mississauga-based Hashim, an organizer with Toronto and York Region Labour Council. “I have never seen this level of engagement from Muslims across the GTA,” he said.

“I think Muslims felt this election they had a lot more to lose, if they stayed on the sidelines,” he said.

A new poll looking at voter turnout in the Muslim community, being released Thursday, backs up what many activists felt was an “unprecedented increase” in civic engagement in the community.

Seventy-nine per cent of nationwide respondents to the poll, commissioned by the grassroots group The Canadian Muslim Vote, said they voted. In nine GTA ridings where TCMV was on the ground, present at events and went door to door, the voter turnout was 88 per cent. (The national voter turnout this year was 68.5 per cent.)

“We worked really hard over the past seven months to really undertake an intensive election-awareness campaign, so for us, these results are amazing,” said Muneeza Sheikh, spokeswoman for TCMV. “There were a number of issues that really affected the Muslim community, and so people were really receptive,” she said.

(A look at an electoral map of Toronto where the muslims comprise a significant segment of the population will tell you exactly how they voted. This non-partizan group might be suspected of being a more, non-non-partizan group)

3. U.S. Pilots Confirm: Obama Admin Blocks 75 Percent of Islamic State Strikes

(I have heard interviews with pilots and related personnel who have explained in detail this exact issue. Obama has to personally approve any use of ordnance and how often is the President available to take a call from a jet over a target? Answer: Nearly never)

U.S. military pilots who have returned from the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq are confirming that they were blocked from dropping 75 percent of their ordnance on terror targets because they could not get clearance to launch a strike, according to a leading member of Congress.

Strikes against the Islamic State (also known as ISIS or ISIL) targets are often blocked due to an Obama administration policy to prevent civilian deaths and collateral damage, according to Rep. Ed Royce (R., Calif.), chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

The policy is being blamed for allowing Islamic State militants to gain strength across Iraq and continue waging terrorist strikes throughout the region and beyond, according to Royce and former military leaders who spoke Wednesday about flaws in the U.S. campaign to combat the Islamic State.

“You went 12 full months while ISIS was on the march without the U.S. using that air power and now as the pilots come back to talk to us they say three-quarters of our ordnance we can’t drop, we can’t get clearance even when we have a clear target in front of us,” Royce said. “I don’t understand this strategy at all because this is what has allowed ISIS the advantage and ability to recruit.”

When asked to address Royce’s statement, a Pentagon official defended the Obama administration’s policy and said that the military is furiously working to prevent civilian casualties.

4. Islamic State school in Afghanistan

(Almost certainly indistinguishable from Taliban schools except maybe slightly less tolerant of the Shiia)

(Quite a bit of this video was not translated properly, such as the word, ‘kufar’ which you can hear clearly)

5. Soros-Backed Group Launches Bid to Keep Syrian Refugees Flowing

A group masquerading as conservative but backed by left-wing foundations including billionaire George Soros’s Foundation to Promote Open Society (FPOS) has launched an online advertising campaign in defense of bringing Syrian refugees to the United States.

The banner ads bear tag lines like, “Support freedom, not fear,” and, “America is better when we welcome refugees.” They lead to a microsite located at Americaisbetter.org with Old Glory-clothed, American flag-waving young people, with a light-skinned blonde leading the way for others who appear to be ethnic minorities partially or fully obscured behind her.

The site in turn quotes conservative icon former president Ronald Reagan, saying, “America is better when we embrace President Reagan’s ‘shining city … teeming with people of all kinds, living in harmony and peace.’”

6. [Please read the following question in your best Rod Serling voice in your head]

(Imagine if you would, that you noticed that the world was changing in a way so dramatic, so profound and so quickly, that you felt like you must be crazy for noticing. That perhaps there was some agency behind it. That it was changing in a way, not just to destroy you but your culture, your future and the future of everyone like you and even erase your history like it never happened. Imagine then that you tried to find out how big this was. That maybe it was even bigger than your own government)

Thank you Daffers, M., SC., PP., and all who contributed to this post.

I think 6 items is all anyone can handle when they are this heavy.
