Why do we have to keep asking...

‘In numerous examples across the world the four-day week with no loss of pay has been shown to boost productivity and the wellbeing of workers.’

This seems to be another of those times when we are supposed to just accept what we are told, because none of these ‘numerous examples’ are actually quoted in the article

I did a quick Google and found this article about six companies that have trialed it and had positive results. They were tech, financial services and HR companies, so are more suited to make such a change, unlike companies like ours that produce products for clients on deadlines

A couple more articles I found, repeated some of the same companies, so it doesn’t really seem all  that widespread. If there really were numerous examples, they would be a lot easier to find on Google

Of course it’s popular among workers. Who wouldn’t want to work a day less each week and still get the same pay? Well, only people who can see the damage such a Government intervention would do to businesses in the private sector

The same people would probably be in favour of any kind of ‘free’ stuff you offered them, as they haven’t bothered to think about the real world consequences

Across the country, more than 70 companies and 3,300 workers are taking part in the world’s biggest ever four-day working week trial.

Worlds biggest? I thought there were numerous examples?

A study by the think tank Autonomy also revealed if the four-day working week was implemented across the economy with no loss of pay for workers, it would be affordable to the majority of firms.

I’m sure a fountain in the reception would be affordable for the majority of firms, but there’s a reason why private sector businesses don’t dablle in such folly. And what about the firms that can’t afford it? Screw them and thier employees?

There’s a campaign for this tomfoolery? Of courses there is. We currently have a five day working week, yet that gives too much time for sad basement dwellers to campaign for piss poor ideas that they will never have to pay for themselves

‘Imagine how much happier we would all be. It would give us the time to properly rest, enjoy a better quality of life and boost productivity at work.

I do suppose those who manage to keep their jobs would be happier. If my company were forced into a four day working week, we would likely end up with a no day working week

And if you can’t rest up enough when doing 9-5 with two days off, you’re doing something wrong. Probably getting too pissed or something

As for productivity, if this balmpot idea actually did increase it, employers would already be doing it. The fact that they’re not, tells you all you need to know
