Attorney Lauren P. Raysor, Esq., author of “Living the Wealthy Life,” and “Being Broke Is Not A Lifestyle,” has announced that LWL Entertainment, in association with Cocoagirls Productions, is presenting “Laughter and Lyrics,” a special four-night event celebrating Women’s History Month. “Laughter and Lyrics” will take place on March 21, 23, 28 and 30 at The Bassline, located at 130 East First Street in Mount Vernon, New York.

“Laughter and Lyrics” will showcase the funniest comediennes and most talented female vocalists and spoken-word poets. Ms. Raysor will be joined by the event’s producer, Phyllis Yvonne Stickney, who has appeared in films such as “Malcolm X,” “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” “New Jack City” and “Die Hard With A Vengeance.” She has also performed at numerous theater and arts festivals around the world and received numerous honors for her contributions to the arts and society.

Acclaimed spoken word poet and AUDELCO Award winner Jaylene Clark will host. While attending Ithaca College, she founded the poetry organization Spit That! and served as its first president. Some of her theatre credits include Eurydice (Big Stone), The Exonerated (Georgia) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Hippolyta). As executive director of Harlem KW Project, LLC, the group performed Renaissance in the Belly of a Killer Whale, an original play they wrote and produced about the gentrification in Harlem; the play received an AUDELCO Award. She is also recognized for her spoken-word poetry, having won Apollo Theater’s Amateur Night and being named a Super Top Dog Amateur Night finalist. She recently served as Associate Producer for the revival of the Obie Award-winning play The Great McDaddy and is currently Associate Producer for the Off-Broadway production of Soul Nativity.

Also performing will be:

● Shunta Nicole Warthen — Ms. Warthen has been singing since she was 5 at her local church and, at age 9, started a gospel music group called Angels of Love. She has since expanded into R&B and pop and has opened up for such artists as Heather Headley, Freddie Jackson, Stephanie Mills, Mya and Vivian Green. She has appeared on “American Idol” and “Showtime at the Apollo” and performed at Village Underground and B.B. King’s.

● Trena B. Real — The Texas-born and Virginia-raised comedienne used her street knowledge to turn her challenges of growing up as the youngest of eight children in an impoverished, crime-ridden neighborhood into pure comic material. Her conversational style puts the audience at ease and in a good mood as she talks about being a parent in the 21st century, reality TV, commercials and her day-to-day life. Before doing standup comedy, she hosted a radio show on WTJZ AM in Hampton, Virginia. She has performed at The Comic Strip in New York City, Canticles Lounge in Brooklyn, Poet’s Den in East Harlem and Dinosaur BBQ in Harlem.

● Takeema Chanel — She is a vocalist, public speaker, poet, dancer, writer, director, photographer and artist. She balances her time as a full-time single parent and college student by occupying herself in various projects. She lends her talent to several production companies for roles in privately-driven productions and is now “in the lab” honing her acting skills as she is being considered for more serious roles. As a vocalist, she has established herself as one of the most soulful young singers around, having fronted alternative, gospel and neo-soul bands. When she is not singing, she is sharing her stories and poems with her audience.

“There is no better way to celebrate Women’s History Month than to be entertained with comedy, music and poetry by these talented women,” Ms. Raysor said. “I would like to thank Ms. Stickney for helping me turn the concept for this special four-night event into a reality. I encourage all women to come down and learn the importance of female empowerment through laughter, music and the spoken word.”

Doors open at 8 p.m. Showtime is at 9 p.m. Parking is free. Tickets are $20, $30 at the door. Tickets may be purchased online atwww.LWLEntertainment.com. Seating is limited.
