Fantasy Football Outlook: If Palmer can withstand the beating he will take behind an unproven offensive line, we should see him throw for a career high in passing yards. Bruce Arians likes to throw the football; it’s his love for the passing game that played a hand in the Steelers letting him go, and what allowed Andrew Luck to throw for over 4,000 yards in his rookie season.
The Cardinals have a respectable defense, but they are set up to throw the football with Larry Fitzgerald, Andre Roberts, Michael Floyd and tight end Rob Housler. I even like rookie Ryan Swope as a fourth receiver but he needs to prove he’s recovered from his concussion problems (still dealing with the problem in June) so the depth is solid.
It will be a challenge for Palmer but he can be a low-end QB1 in the Cardinals offense, but we should target him as a respectable backup at the end of your draft, or a waiver wire pickup.

Summer 2012: Fantasy Projection
The Raiders gave up the farm to get Carson Palmer, mid-year and while he played well at times, it wasn’t enough to make up for the loss of Darren McFadden. Oakland will be switching to a West Coast offense, but they should take shots down the field with speedsters Darrius Heyward-Bey, Jacoby Ford and Denarius Moore on board.
While Palmer is capable of throwing for over 4,000 yards and close to 30 touchdowns in a season, the Raiders are better off trying to run the football first with McFadden. When healthy he’s clearly one of the elite running backs in the game, and when he’s on the field, it makes the vertical passing game a greater weapon.
Look to Palmer as a respectable backup quarterback on draft day, as his recent ADP trends have him going as the 19th quarterback off the board.

Summer 2011: Waiting for Next Year?
It looks like Carson Palmer’s time is all but done in Cincinnati but unfortunately the veteran is likely to sit out the entire 2011 season as the Bengals owner won’t trade him. Palmer will have to wait until next off-season before he moves on to another squad.
June 2011 – Carson Wants To Move On From Bengals
Playing from behind, Carson Palmer actually had his best season for fantasy football since 2007, but it wasn’t much to brag about. Twenty interceptions and a clear breakdown in relations with the organization made Palmer publicly demand a trade, or he will retire.
I don’t believe Palmer will retire, but it will be interesting to see if the Bengals hold to their stance of vowing not to trade Palmer when the lockout lifts. Clearly, the Bengals are retooling on offense as they are going to let go of Chad Ochocinco, and they drafted A.J. Green and second round quarterback Andy Dalton this spring.
If Palmer should have a change of heart, he would be the starting quarterback in Cincinnati, but I have a feeling that Palmer will get his wish in the end and move to another team. If Palmer should stay with the Bengals he would make for a solid backup quarterback this season, as the Bengals will probably be a losing team and Palmer actually has some decent young players in the passing game.
2010 Preview
We will now findout for good if Carson Palmer’s problems last season were because of his arm health or the talent around him. With the signing of Terrell Owens, Palmer now has three solid targets to throw at. Look for Palmer as a late starting quarterback at your fantasy draft to an early backup.
2010 Fantasy Football Outlook
2009 Fantasy Year In Review: Some questioned (and still do) if Carson Palmer’s throwing arm is still a health concern as he seemed to breakdown at the end of the year. While that could be a possibility, I believe it had more to do with the fact that his only weapon to throw to was Chad Ochocinco.
For the season Palmer played more of a game manager as he helped the Bengals win their division.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: It will be interesting to see what kind of numbers Palmer has by seasons end as the team acquired Antonio Bryant and draft Jermaine Gresham. This two pass catchers should help Palmer over the course of the season and that will help his fantasy value.
Fantasy owners should look to Palmer to produce more than 3,500 yards passing and around 25 touchdowns this season. Hopefully, his throwing arm is ok, and we can get past all this heath speculation by the end of the year.
