Thunderbird Entertainment kicks off 2020 with record number of viewers

Thunderbird Entertainment Group Inc (CVE:TBRD) (OTCMKTS:THBRF) is off to a record start to the new decade as the production company announced viewership figures of nearly 8 million people across Canada. 

The Vancouver-based company said Tuesday that 7.9 million people have watched Thunderbird programs as of January 15, the highest level in the firm’s history. 

Viewership is up, thanks to a spate of new premieres, the ongoing popularity of its current series and repeat episodes of past seasons, as people catch up with programs on leading streaming platforms like Netflix.

Thunderbird president Mark Miller attributed the record start, in large part to Thunderbird’s high-quality storytelling.

“Ratings and viewership numbers are powerful renewal drivers, which is an integral part of our strategy,” Miller said in a statement. “To have 7.9 million people in Canada alone watching our shows is an incredible result that proves Canadians love premium content.”

Eyes on hit series

The production company runs three divisions, including Kids & Family, Factual and Scripted content.

Popular sitcom Kim’s Convenience started a new season on Canadian broadcaster CBC in January. The broadcaster also debuted the first episode of High Arctic Haulers, a seven-episode look at life in Canada’s northern communities.

Discovery’s hit series Highway Thru Hell launched its new 18-episode series in September 2019, attracting nearly 4 million Canadian viewers.

Shares of Thunderbird were trading at C$1.20 in Toronto and at US$0.97 over the counter.
