Hard Maple

Yesterday I learned what hard maple was all about.  Wow. We have been rehabbing a cabin since late May.  It actually started last October with the first demolition.  My wife and I got it to the point where we were installing the kitchen.  Yesterday, I helped my brother in law install a hard maple butcher block countertop.

Holy schmoly.  I always heard how tough it was to cut maple.  Unfortunately for my brother in law, I didn’t prepare correctly.  Had the wrong saw blades.  We burned through two of them.  We also burned through several jigsaw blades.  My lack of preparedness turned it into a challenging experience.

Dust and smoke everywhere.

My brother in law did a fantastic job and the counters look great.

We are in the home stretch now of getting the first phase done. Still have some outside work to do and next year we need to redo the loft.
