Carle Place, NY — In addition to being a leader in the local business community, Lillian Dent, Co-Owner, LL Dent Restaurant, is also recognized for her work in the community. In the next few weeks, Ms. Dent will be honored by local organizations for her volunteer efforts.

On April 4, Ms. Dent will receive the Unispan Award at the 39th Annual Hempstead for Hofstra/Hofstra for Hempstead Scholarship Dinner at the university’s David S. Mack Student Center, North Campus at 6:30 p.m. The award is given to individuals whose professional or personal lives have enriched the Hempstead community.

Ms. Dent will also receive the Sharon Newman Award from the National Association of Business Women Owners of Long Island on May 8 at Westbury Manor from 6-9 p.m. This is the second time she has been recognized by this organization. The award is named after the president of Action Envelope who took over the business after her husband died in 1993. In 2000, her son joined the business and the company made its first foray onto the Internet withActionEnvelope.com. Since then, the online retailer has serviced more than 250,000 customers in the U.S. and around the world.

In 2007, Ms. Dent and her daughter Leisa were named Business Persons of the Year by Central Nassau Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs. In 2009, Ms. Dent was named one of NassauCounty’s Women of Distinction. A year later, she was honored by the National Association of Women Business Owners of Long Island (NAWBO LI) for receiving the Woman of Excellence in Hospitality Industry Award and by the Long Island Association (LIA) Small Business Council for the Women-Owned Business Advocate Award.

In May 2011, she was named one of Long Island Business News’ Top 50 Women in Business. Six months later, she received the Black Rose Award from Black Women Enterprises; the award is so named because the black rose is the rarest of roses and the black female executive is the rarest of the entrepreneurs, especially in the private- and public-sector procurement process.

On March 23, Ms. Dent received the Entrepreneur Award from the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. Beta Omicron Chapter (Professional Sorority for Educators) at its 13th Annual Red and Gold Scholarship Gala.

Ms. Dent and her daughter Leisa opened LL Dent in 2006. She previously spent 30 years working at The Dow Jones Company, including eight as a manager. LL Dent serves the community through involvement with several outreach programs such as Cooks for Kids and Young Entrepreneurs. The restaurant, under the direction of Ms. Dent, has been involved in cooking demonstrations to benefit suicide prevention programs, as well as for cancer survivors and domestic abuse victims.

In addition to running the restaurant, Ms. Dent has been an active Life Member of the Central Nassau chapter of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club since 1985. She has served on the organization’s Budget and Finance, Joint Worship, Senior Citizens, Government Affairs Committees and Nominating Committees. She is also a member of The Union Baptist Church in Hempstead.

Ms. Dent has been part of Central Nassau Club for more than 25 years, where she has helped to design and implement programs to promote health, education and economic development in the central Nassau community. She is also the current president of Hausch Manor Civic Association, whose focus is providing scholarships for high school students and outreach to deserving families at holiday time.

“I am pleased to be honored by these wonderful organizations that have recognized my efforts in the business world and in the community,” Ms. Dent said. “While I am a successful business owner, I understand that I have a responsibility to give back to the community, which I am happy to fulfill. I think it is wonderful to help out others and inspire a future generation of female entrepreneurs.”
