Ultimatum to Macron: Yellow vests tighten tone before today’s act 18

Activists of the Yellow West Movement have issued an ultimatum to President Emmanuel Macron for tomorrow’s weekly 18th act of protest. They are finally demanding the implementation of their demands. The tone in the direction of their government is becoming much rougher.

Three well-known representatives of the Yellow West movement, Eric Drouet, Maxime Nicolle and Priscilla Ludosky, have been striking a harsher note since mid-November in the run-up to tomorrow’s eighteenth rally. Tomorrow the rally will take place under the motto “All to Paris for Act 18”. The three activists seem determined in advance not to give in. Even more: On the Facebook page “Act 18 – Ultimatum – All France to Paris” the yellow westerners give the president an ultimatum and demand the implementation of their demands.

“On Saturday, they will have to come to terms with this, they will feel the consequences of 17 weeks of fooling around,” write the activists. It is noticeable that the pitch becomes much sharper. “I don’t give a shit. [I won’t tell people anymore]: “Stay calm,” warns Maxime Nicolle in one of his live streams. In another post he talks about “what will happen, will happen”. And he adds, “I will not call for non-violence, I will not call for violence.”

The French daily Journal du Dimanche quotes Priscillia Ludosky, who has so far been rather moderate, as saying that she is prepared to use “non-violent but radical, precise and targeted solutions to obtain the full attention expected”. On YouTube, Eric Drouet gave advice on how to get to the Paris demonstrations from the province and assured that the police “anticipated the actions” and would try to block participants. In addition, Eric Drouet addressed the president directly: “Macron, you may be suspicious.” Drouet predicted a very important act and then spoke of a “national blockade”.

For the logistical organization of the participants from the province, several Facebook pages were set up to organize accommodation or carpools. Apparently there will also be an unification of various demonstrations. A solidarity march against police violence and a climate demonstration are to unite with the yellow vest rallies tomorrow.

Escalation in Paris: Residential building goes up in flames during yellow vest protests
A bank also went up in flames: Firefighters are standing at the entrance of a branch of the Tarneaud Bank near Champs-Elysees-Allee in Paris.

A house in Paris has gone up in flames during protests of the yellow vests – a mother and her baby have been rescued. According to Interior Minister Christophe Castaner, the fire was set deliberately.

The fire broke out in a bank on the ground floor of the building near the Champs-Élysées mile and then spread, as France 3 reported. The mother and her child were said to be on the second floor and were brought to safety by firefighters. “The people who committed this act are neither demonstrators nor rioters, they are murderers,” Castaner explained via Twitter.

During the protests of the yellow vests on Saturday there were again violent riots in the capital of France. On the Champs-Élysées, shops were plundered, shop windows smashed and cars set on fire.

In the morning Castaner had declared that professional rioters had mixed among the demonstrators. Last week the number of demonstrators in the protests against the reform policies of French President Emmanuel Macron had continued to decrease according to government figures.
