‘Buying Opportunity of a Generation Ahead for Gold,’ Dundee’s Ned Goodman

The period ahead may be the buying opportunity of a generation for gold and commodity investors, but won’t be nearly as kind to those trading more broadly in equity markets, says Ned Goodman, president and chief executive of Dundee Corp.

“I’m bearish on the stock market, but I am very bullish on gold and anything that has an inflationary impact,” Mr. Goodman said in luncheon speech at PDAC Monday, reiterating his positive stance on the yellow metal.

The veteran money manager, who was recently named to the board of directors at Barrick Gold Corp., said gold is extremely undervalued after its precipitous fall over the past two years and should rise on growing demand from China.

He believes the world’s second biggest economy wants the gold standard back and is determined to buy enough bullion in order to eliminate the U.S. dollar as the world’s reserve currency.

“If we can return to a classical gold standard, we will have a good time in the commodity markets,” he said.
