How to cope with a strict lifestyle?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

I know a lot of people that find themselves being forced to lead a controlled lifestyle. One of my friends in high school had a serious heart disease. I know how he regulated his lifestyle (including diet and physical activities).

I talked to him about how he coped with this strict lifestyle. Needless to say, he was very sad and forgot many things in his life. That is why I thought of writing this post.
There are others, like me, who had to force themselves to make a dramatic change in their lifestyles. In my case, I was close to developing some serious lifestyle disorders because of my weight. I had to change most of my life to undo the damage that I did to my body.

I had to lose weight or risk getting high cholesterol levels. And I was forced to control my sleep. For a long time, I felt like I was in a prison. And the alarm clock was the jail warden.
Coping doesn’t mean controlling

We need to understand that the first step towards achieving a strict lifestyle is to be flexible. You cannot live inside a house with a set of rules that schedule tasks.
When I had to get up early in the morning to do some serious fat-burning cardio, the only thing that bothered me was getting up. I enjoyed working out, but I feared losing my sleep. That’s when I realized that trying to control our life makes it more difficult.
Coping means finding a way to ‘effectively’ deal with something. Most of us go against what we are told to. It’s the fun part that we miss. We have the choice to be happy of what we do, or to be miserable about that.
Accept life as it is

I believe that accepting something really takes some workload off from our shoulders. Living in the past, or the future, can only make things worse. Next time you feel lazy to start working out, try taking a deep breath and just do it. Think about the end result and be positive.

Most of us feel like we should abandon a particular lifestyle, once the immediate need is gone. This is why most of us are average gym-goers. Most diseases like cholesterol and diabetes requires for us to remain inside a strict lifestyle for the rest of our lives.

We always avoid situations that compromise our comfort-zone. Likewise, an easy lifestyle sets in very fast. Before we know it, we ignore everything that is healthy.

Finding the rhythm

This might be hard for some people. For those who are willing to make an attempt to have some fun in life might find the ‘rhythm.’ It’s basically adapting to the lifestyle.

“You stick to something for some time, you’ll definitely start to like it.”

Do you doubt this theory of mine? It’s basic human psychology. We always adapt to things as part of adjusting to the different environments. Tell me one thing you can’t do if someone points a gun at you! We live in a comfort-zone and that leads to a lot of diseases and complications. Only a few are willing to get out of it.
The hard part is to find a way to make things interesting. We quit when we feel dull and uninterested about something. I found out that making a lot of friends inside the gym keeps me active and positive while working out. Find your rhythm.
Let time do the rest
It’s best to approach a lifestyle change as something that is ‘meant to be.’ You have two choices. One, you can go with the tide and end up in a hard place. Two, you can do what is necessary to achieve a good, healthy life. I prefer the second choice.
Time heals all wounds. Time takes the dullness out of everything. A year ago, I had to force myself to do a single push-up. Now, I do a minimum of 60 intense push-ups everyday. Time changes everything. I am happy that I changed my lifestyle when I did.
Most diseases come from inappropriate lifestyles. How did you make ‘that’ lifestyle change? Do you think that this change was for the best?
