On March 7, Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. (ADRC) will host its 9th Annual Alzheimer’s Disease Education Conference & Expo 2013 at the Melville Marriott Long Island, located at 1350 Old Walt Whitman Road in Melville. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the conference begins at 9 a.m., following an introduction by Mary Ann Malack-Ragona, Executive Director/CEO, Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center.

The event will feature a caregiver discussion panel facilitated by ADRC Instructor Ellen Tolle, RN, MPS, who will encourage individual caregivers to discuss the challenges and personal experiences encountered when caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s Disease. The session will also provide renewed support for all the work that the caregivers do, as well as give them the confidence they need to continue providing quality care for their loved ones.

The panel will be followed by a series of breakout and plenary sessions throughout the day, including a session on “Legal Planning and Eldercare Concerns for the Caregiver and the Person with Dementia” presented by Frank Buquicchio, Esq., Member, ADRC’sLegal Advisory Committee. There will also be an Expo where attendees can visit the exhibitors’ booths, an ice cream social and a wine and cheese reception.

This year’s luncheon keynote speaker is designer, artist and philanthropist Bobbie Braun, who will give the audience a glimpse into her journey of caring for her aging parents, and share with them the ups and downs, the humor and the complexity of finding the right care for her parents. Thrown into her care giving role on a moment’s notice, Ms. Braun worked diligently to develop what is an evolving long-term care plan while advocating on behalf of her parents to ensure quality care and maintaining the flexibility needed to address a moving disease process.

The Education Conference and Expo is part of a two-day event to educate and inform those about Alzheimer’s Disease, the causes of the disease and prospective treatments. On March 6, ADRC will host its second annual Physicians Outreach Dinner at the Long Island Marriott from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The focus of the event will be improving care through quality diagnosis, treatment and resources. Medical and legal experts will discuss research, diagnosis, pharmacological interventions, community resources and the legal and financial components of long-term care planning. (The Physicians Outreach Dinner is only open to board-certified and board-eligible physicians.)

Registration is $45 for the Conference & Expo, $25 for lunch only. Checks should be made out to Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. The deadline to register is February 25.

Exhibitors’ tables are still available. To purchase tickets or for more information, please contact Mary Ann Malack-Ragona, Executive Director/CEO, at (631) 820-8068, or visit www.adrcinc.org.
