Unidentified Aussie Is Roaming The Wild, Teaching The Internet How To Survive Off-Grid [Watch]

By Amanda Froelich

The internet is infatuated with an unidentified man who is teaching primitive technology – the art of surviving using only basic tools such as fire, sticks, water, dirt, and rocks.

A nameless Australian man has gained internet stardom in a relatively short span of time due to the educational offerings he shares on his YouTube channel, Primitive Technology. Using nothing more than his hands, he’s shown viewers how to make everything from iron to charcoal and is constantly creating and building things with primitive tools.

Inquisitr surmises that it’s his no-gloating, no-nonsense approach that has resulted in him becoming a sensation around the world. That and, of course, the treasure trove of information he shares in his videos. Really, the man puts adventurers such as Bear Grylls to shame due to his decision to subsist with primitive technology, which means using only fire, sticks, stones, dirt, water and rocks to survive.

The unnamed man writes in the ‘About’ section of his website that primitive technology involves creating things out in the woods – away from the relative comforts of modern-day equipment and tools. The key, apparently, is to determine what can be created without modern technology, the way primitive folks accomplished the same tasks years ago.

In one of his videos, the survivalist teaches his audience how to create iron using a furnace he created out of clay. On his blog, he says:

“My intent was not so much to make iron, but to show that the furnace can reach a fairly high temperature using this blower. A taller furnace called a bloomery was generally used in ancient times to produce usable quantities of iron and consumed more charcoal, ore and labour.”

In the “Making Charcoal” video, the unidentified survivalist goes through the steps of making batches of charcoal in the woods. View that below:

The Primitive Technology channel doesn’t disclose much about the guy who runs it, but that hasn’t stopped fans from following or enjoying the content. At present, Primitive Technology has nearly 800k subscribers, and the creator only joined YouTube in May of 2015!

Because you, like many around the world, are probably curious about the man behind the channel and his inspiration for sharing primitive technology, following is a Q & A session he participated in:

Q.Where is this? A. This is in Far North Queensland Australia.

Q. Do you live in the wild? A. I don’t live in the wild but just go into the bush to make these projects. Also I camp out here occasionally.

Q. How did you learn all this? A. Researching books and the internet plus trial and error. I’m not indigenous and have no army training.

Q. What about dangerous animals in Australia? A. The only really dangerous ones in my area are snakes. Care must be taken when walking about and lifting things from the ground.

Q. For the mud huts what stops the rain washing the mud walls away? A. The roof.

Q. Why don’t you talk in the videos? A. When I watch how to videos I fast forward past the talking part to see the action part. So I leave it out of my videos in favor of pure demonstration.

An article by Popular Mechanics explains that the reason the Primitive Technology guy has become such a hit is because people want to learn skills that will help them survive at the end of the world. Considering it’s either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump who is likely to become the next President of the United States, learning survivalist skills doesn’t seem like a bad idea.
