PYS Urges Crackdown On Illegal Plastic Sales In Yemmiganur

Andhra Pradesh: The Pragathisheela Yuvajana Sangam (PYS) has demanded immediate action against shops in Yemmiganur town that are openly selling banned plastic items, warning of serious environmental and public health consequences if authorities fail to act.

Memorandum submitted to Municipal Commissioner

On June 30, PYS Division Convener S Muneppa submitted a formal petition to the Municipal Commissioner at the Yemmiganur Municipal Office. The petition urged the administration to conduct surprise inspections across the town and take stringent action against those selling prohibited plastic goods. “Despite plastic bans by both central and state governments, banned items are still being sold freely in Yemmiganur,” said Muneppa.

Banned plastics flooding local markets

Muneppa alleged that plastic covers, cups, glasses, and other single-use plastic items—prohibited under environmental regulations—are being sold openly in local shops, undermining efforts to maintain a plastic-free environment. “These items not only pollute the environment but also pose grave risks to human and animal health,” he warned.

Environmental and health hazards increasing

According to PYS, the continued use of banned plastic is leading to garbage accumulation, foul odors, and a surge in mosquito breeding—directly impacting the town’s sanitation and public health. “Plastic waste is choking the environment. It’s time the authorities act before the situation worsens,” Muneppa added.

Call for seizures and penal action

The PYS demanded that municipal officials immediately seize banned plastic stock from vendors and impose penalties to deter further violations. The group emphasized that enforcement is key to protecting both nature and public well-being.

The representation was supported by several PYS leaders and activists, including Chandu, Johnny, Bujjanna, Anil, Prabhu, Ashok, and Vijay. They pledged to continue pressuring the authorities until the town is rid of illegal plastic trade.
