Nigeria: Explosion hits busy street, bars district in northern city of Kano, 10 dead

An explosion has ripped through drinking centre in Kano, Northern Nigeria.

The blast is said to have occurred around 9.30pm on Sunday evening.

The centre is a popular drinking spot in Sabongari area in Kano.

An explosion ripped through a busy street known for its numerous bars and restaurants in the northern Nigerian city of Kano on Sunday, located in the Sabon Gari district. Authorities suspect the blast was caused by a car bomb, AFP reported. Ten people were killed by the explosion, Nigeria’s Channels TV reported, but police are so far unable to confirm the numbers. Witnesses described hearing the blast from a few kilometers away. The Sabon Gari district is mostly inhabited by Christians from southern Nigeria.
