All over the globe there are bloody conflicts raging and potential conflicts simmering dangerously. The U.S. war in Afghanistan, which began in October of 2001, continues on perpetually with no end in sight. Our men and women continue to come home in body bags but the media barely bother to cover it anymore.

The so-called Syrian Civil War has dragged on since January 2011 as the neoconservatives and the foreign policy establishment in Washington relentlessly pursue their policy of regime change in Damascus. (Tehran is also remains in the crosshairs.)

Then there’s the Mexican Drug War and the civil war in South Sudan – all four of these conflicts average 10,000 deaths per year.

Don’t forget about Yemen, Somalia, Kurdistan, Nigeria, Libya – these ongoing conflicts are all averaging more than 1,000 deaths per year.

In the rumors of war category is Ukraine, which reportedly is preparing a major offensive against Donbas – a provocation that Russia will not take lightly.

Meanwhile Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro is openly claiming that the U.S. plans to overthrow him. Yesterday it was revealed that Russia has deployed long-range supersonic nuclear bombers to Venezuela. These bombers could reach Miami in about an hour and Washington D.C. in less than three hours.

Infowars Europe recorded footage of armored vehicles bearing the EU flag moving through the streets of Paris just days after multiple calls for a standing EU Army.

This ‘rumor’ list could go on and on, these are simply stories that have come out the last 48 hours or so. It’s difficult to project what exactly will become of the situations mentioned, but Bible Prophecy does tell us about several wars we know for certain will occur.

Damascus Destroyed!
According to Isaiah 17:

An oracle concerning Damascus.

Damascus is known as being the oldest continually inhabited city in the world. Isaiah is describing and event that has not yet occurred.

The cities of Aroer are deserted;
     they will be for flocks,
     which will lie down, and none will make them afraid.

Aroer lies east of the Dead Sea in modern day Jordan. This implies that a stronghold in Jordan will be attacked concurrently.

According to verse 9: I

n that day their strong cities will be like the deserted places of the wooded heights and the hilltops, which they deserted because of the children of Israel, and there will be desolation.

This implies that Israel is the aggressor and will be responsible for destroying Damascus.

For you have forgotten the God of your salvation
     and have not remembered the Rock of your refuge

Israel has been trying to solve their political issues apart from God. Eventually, perhaps soon, they will take matters into their own hands.

Evidently in response many nations will launch an invasion against Israel:

Ah, the thunder of many peoples;
     they thunder like the thundering of the sea!
Ah, the roar of nations;
     they roar like the roaring of mighty waters!
     The nations roar like the roaring of many waters

But God will deal with the invading armies himself: .

..but he will rebuke them, and they will flee far away,
chased like chaff on the mountains before the wind
   and whirling dust before the storm.
   At evening time, behold, terror!
     Before morning, they are no more!
   This is the portion of those who loot us,
     and the lot of those who plunder us.

People often interpret this last part to mean that Damascus is destroyed at night. That may be the case but the meaning seems to be that the invasion in response happens at night. By the time the sun comes up God will have dealt with Israel’s enemies.

Prophecy Teacher Bill Salus believes that at the same time Israel attacks Damascus she will also take out nuclear facilities in the western part of Iran.

The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah.

Elam is in the western part of Iran bordering the northern portion of the Persian Gulf.

This is exactly where Iran’s Bushehr nuclear reactor is located:

Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their might. And I will bring upon Elam the four winds from the four quarters of heaven. And I will scatter them to all those winds, and there shall be no nation to which those driven out of Elam shall not come.

If I am reading Isaiah 17 correctly a massive invasion will be launched in response to Israel’s aggression. Could the response be the Gog/Magog invasion of Ezekiel 38?

I lean toward the invasion being different than the one described in Ezekiel and here’s why.

In verses 11 of Ezekiel 38 Israel is described as a quiet people who dwell securely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having no bars or gates. Verse 12 says the motivation of the Gog-Magog invasion is to seize spoil and carry off plunder.

Right now Israel is not a quiet people dwelling securely without walls or gates.

Could it be that there is a war that precedes the Ezekiel war that Israel wins decisively? This victory causes them to truly be at peace and to actually tear down the walls?

Bill Salus believes that Psalm 83 describes a war that is separate and distinct from Ezekiel 38. Psalm 83 verse 4 provides the motivation:

They say, “Come, let us wipe them out as a nation;
     let the name of Israel be remembered no more!”

The motivation is not plunder and booty but to wipe Israel of the map. Eliminating Israel is the stated goal of Hamas, the Palestinian Authority, the Muslim Brotherhood, Hezbollah, etc.

Verses 5-8 tells us who will be involved:

Jeremiah 49 describes the fall of Ammon and Edom which today would be Jordan. Isaiah 19 and Ezekiel 29-30 describe judgements that may yet befall Egypt.

Furthermore Israel may expand in territory prior to the Millennium: .

..then Israel shall dispossess those who dispossessed him, says the Lord. Jeremiah 49:2, Ammon (Amman, Jordan)

Obadiah 19-20

Those of the Negeb shall possess Mount Esau,
    and those of the Shephelah shall possess the land of the Philistines;
they shall possess the land of Ephraim and the land of Samaria,
    and Benjamin shall possess Gilead.
   The exiles of this host of the people of Israel
    shall possess the land of the Canaanites as far as Zarephath,
and the exiles of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad
     shall possess the cities of the Negeb.

The Nebeb is the Sinai Peninsula, the land of the Philistines is Gaza or the Gaza Strip. The land of Ephraim and Samaria is the West Bank. Gilead is in Jordan and Zarephath is in Lebanon.

There is a powerful geopolitical movement called The Greater Israel Project which has exactly this aim of expanding Israel’s borders to more closely match the entirety of the Biblical Promised Land. (I am merely stating a fact here and am not supporting this groups overall aims.)

A Scenario
What follows is not meant to be dogma, I am merely suggesting a possible sequence of events. At a future date, perhaps in the very near future, Israel decides to take out Damascus and Iran’s Bushehr nuclear reactor. The Muslim world is outraged and shortly after Hamas, the Palestinian Authority, Hezbollah, the Muslim Brotherhood, Isis and Al Qaeda all launch a massive joint-attack on Israel to wipe it off the map.

Israeli Defense Forces respond very aggressively and God grants them success and a very convincing victory. Israel’s now controls parts of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt plus they now possess Gaza, the West Bank and the Golan Heights unchallenged.

Israel now resides safely and signs a covenant with many nations, out of which a 10 nation alliance emerges. Israel tears down border walls and resides safely for a time.

Eventually the Ezekiel 38 war happens and some combination of these nations attack a prosperous Israel to take a spoil: Russia, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Sudan and/or Libya.

Out of this Ezekiel war the Antichrist emerges, confirming the existing covenant and possibly putting down / absorbing three nations in the process.
