UN vote against Israel was planned by Kerry, Rice, Erekat: report

An Egyptian newspaper report said Wednesday that US Secretary of State John Kerry and National Security Advisor Susan Rice met representatives of the Palestinian delegation to the global body along with senior Palestinian Authority official Saeb Erekat a week before the Security Council passed its December 23 resolution condemning Israel. According to the report in the Al-Youm Al-Sabea, Kerry promised the Palestinians “full cooperation” at the December 15 meeting in Washington, and Rice praised Erekat for saying several years ago that Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu was against a two-state solution. Rice was also said to have expressed concern about the effect of US President-elect Donald Trump on the peace process, claiming his administration would be “dangerous” and that his opinions on Israel and the Palestinians “would be different from all previous administrations”. The Egyptian report was based on an Arabic-language document that the newspaper identified as a transcript of the meeting.
Kerry is to give a speech on Wednesday in which he will describe his vision for a solution of the conflict, which has been shared with the Palestinians but not with Israel. Meanwhile, Erekat denied that the document is authentic and claimed that it was fabricated by Mohammed Dahlan, a rival of Palestinian leader Abu Mazen.
