FUKUSHIMA, Japan (Reuters) Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano confirmed on Saturday there has been an explosion and radiation leakage at Tokyo Electric Power Co’s (TEPCO) (9501.T) Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. “We are looking into the cause and the situation and we’ll make that public when we have further information,” Edano said.”At present, we think 10 km evacuation is appropriate.”Japan earlier in the day warned of a meltdown at a reactor at the plant, damaged when a massive earthquake and tsunami struck the northeast coast, but said the risk of radiation contamination was small. UPDATE: 10/22/12: 13:30pm Monday Japan time: The Oct 18th explosion was due to an earthquake with a 3.9 mag. This quake breached the walls containment system, therefore causing further meltdown of the fuel rods down to their plutonium cores. There is no steam effect when Plutonium hits the air, so do not expect to see any steam like the before materials, its a ‘ vapor ‘ that cannot be seen. – Michael Eckstein

What convinces you this is a hoax? It is sourced (which most of BIN stories arent) with name of Japanese official quoted. Did he NOT say what is claimed? Most of the herd here probably didnt fact check the orginal article- NOR this counter-article which appeared afterwards.

There is a saying that god helps those that help themselves. In this case I suggest instead of all the mumbo jumbo to get as far away as possible from the place. On a more useful note pouring concrete would not help, just contain the airborne local radiation there would be an underground meltdown which would go into the water table and surface somewhere else. Whatever does or does not happen the whole of Japan is doomed and will be wiped out in 30-40 years from long term radiation poisoning and cancer plus genetic disorders to anybody that has ingested the smallest amount of radiation. This for our bible friend, there some where a bit about curses on your children’s children means radiation damages genetic structure which take more than one generation to show( if you live that long) sort of long term zombie effect of your grand children. Have you noticed no one still lives anywhere near Chernobyl which radiation types and levels are no where near as bad as in Japan.
