Applying Pressure

For the next two weeks, your representative and senators will be back in their home districts and states meeting with constituents, giving speeches, and perhaps holding a few town halls. While they’re home, this is the perfect time to apply extra pressure to get their support for initiatives you care about.
Have you been collecting Audit the Fed petitions? If so, this is a great time to stop by the local offices of your representative and senators to drop them off.
Still sitting on that “Letter to the Editor” for the local paper you’ve been meaning to send off? This is the perfect time for issue-based letters to appear in your local papers.
Concerned about protecting your civil liberties and your 4th Amendment rights from infringements by the TSA and legislation such as the so-called “Patriot” Act? Try to schedule a meeting with your representative or their local staff to voice your concerns.
Think Congress needs to assert its Constitutional perogative over unilateral Presidential warmongering in Libya and around the globe? They definitely need to hear that.
Are you annoyed over the political posturing and empty rhetoric over the recent budget debate? Let your Congressman know they need to take our fiscal crisis seriously and begin to make the serious cuts that will lead to a balanced budget in the near future – 10-20 years is not the near future. If you oppose them raising the debt limit, make sure they know.
