New Hampshire challenges Big Labor monopoly

By Tim Shoemaker
New Hampshire took big steps today towards becoming the 23rd “Right to Work” state and the first in the Northeast to pass RTW legislation. The State Senate voted 16-8, a veto proof majority, to pass the HB 474.
The Senate version removed a provision from the House-passed bill that says unions are not required to represent employees who do not join or pay dues.
The legislation now heads back to the NH House where they must decide whether to agree with the changes the Senate made or reconcile the differences. It passed the House back in February by a vote of 221 to 131, not quite enough to override the Governors expected veto.
John Kalb, Executive Director of New England Citizens for Right to Work said in a press release:
“Governor Lynch has already promised his Big Labor benefactors that he will veto the Right to Work Bill. But if Right to Work supporters keep up the pressure, we have a good chance of overriding the Governor’s veto and making Right to Work the law of the land in New Hampshire.
“This is what the majority of New Hampshire citizens want, so if Right to Work doesn’t become law in New Hampshire this year, you can be sure that those politicians who defied the will of the overwhelming majority of Granite State citizens that oppose forced unionism will pay the price at the ballot box during the next election.
