Buying Hillary

On a recent show, Rush Limbaugh (and I apologize for the butchered quote so take those quote marks as suggestions) said of Hillary Clinton, and possibly the entire Clinton machine: “Hillary has let everyone know if you want them you have to buy them.”

Of course he’s referring to the continuing saga of ABC Newsman, and former Clinton operative, George Stephanopoulos and his almost bone-headed contributions to The Clinton Foundation while posing as an objective journalist.

But now [Stephanopoulos’] credibility, and future, have been called into question since he admitted Friday that he had donated $75,000 to the Clinton Foundation since 2011, just as the presidential race gears up with Hillary Rodham Clinton the leading Democrats.

In a mea culpa delivered Sunday on “This Week,” Stephanopoulos, who was also a top aide in Bill Clinton’s White House, said the gifts “were a matter of public record, but I should have made additional disclosures on air when we covered the foundation.”

Yeah, sure. Watch the video at the link. I personally can’t decide if it’s one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen or one of the most hilarious. Either way, it’s an uncomfortable minute of watching a narcissist caught in the act trying to “apologize” but (probably clinically) being unable to do so without still talking up his many accomplishments. Jesus George. Just say you’re sorry and let the chips fall. You’re ruining our day.

But let’s get back to what this all means, i.e. what have we in Mrs. Clinton: Candidate.

Well, what it means is that out there in flyover country, where people look at something like this and see it exactly for what it is because they could give two *ahems* about the “way things are done” in the corridors of Washington power, Clinton looks like a gladhanding, sleazy politician. (Which, who are we kidding, is part of her appeal to many voters. And that’s the sad and painful truth about humanity, but I won’t get into that now…). Here in DC, she looks like a real player. A tough broad who knows how to survive. *yawn*

I can, sadly, guarantee that this is just a story, not a scandal. Just something to talk about, not something to dismiss her as a candidate over (should it be is another question, one I hope every single presidential candidate is asked, but probably won’t be). But the truth is this: it is representative of what a Hillary presidency would look like. And that needs to be really considered and chewed on, even by her supporters. Because these guys will be your competition in the jockeying for access. And these guys. And these guys. Because they have the funds to be heard.
