Grab With 2 Government Decisions

Veteran settlement leader Yisrael Harel detailed in his column in last
Friday’s edition of Haaretz two major decisions approved by the current
coalition Government that the Netanyahu lead coalition for some reason never
got around to doing.

#1. Increasing the population of Nitzana from a few hundred to 10,000.

Every land swap with the Palestinians proposed by the diehards who still
dream of one day having a sovereign Palestinian state side-by-side with
Israel involves extending the Gaza Strip down the Israeli-Egyptian border.

Nitzana, located on the Egyptian border in close proximity to the Gaza
Strip, is in the middle of all of these land swap maps.

Implementation of the decision effectively kills the possibility of such a
land swap.

#2. Creating the Hareidi city of Kasif in the Negev with 20,000 apartment
units and a high tech industrial park in the first stage

Kasif will be strategically located in an area of state lands which is
threatened by a Bedouin land grab. the move also dramatically increases the
Jewish population of the Negev.

Yes. This is a coalition government where Meretz, Labor and the Arab party
Ra’am all have veto power over cabinet decisions. And yet, despite this,
these two decisions were made.

At the same time, Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman removed duty on
agricultural imports in a move which will both dramatically reduce prices in
Israel but also end two decades of stagnation in agricultural production in
the country. The program will not only compensate Israeli farmers with
subsidies, but, more importantly, also enable Israeli farmers to invest in
equipment so that they can bring Israeli agriculture ahead of the pack.

Lieberman also intends to implement a dramatic plan which has been sitting
on the shelves of the Treasury Ministry for years: setting prices for
parcels of land owned by the Israel Lands Authority and issuing tenders in
which contractors bid for the land on the basis of the prices that they will
sell the apartments for. The LOWEST bidder wins. The plan includes detailed
upgraded standards for the apartments. Contractors are required to complete
construction within three years.

Certainly more can be done and should be done.

DM Gantz’s stranglehold on Jewish construction in Judea and Samaria and his
failure to act against illegal Palestinian construction in Area C must be
put to an end.

This is not a black and white world.

When good things are done it is appropriate to recognize them.
