Bunk Up, Fellas. It’s gonna be a Cold one.
I came across a newspaper article with a pretty good summary of which districts have been “double-bunked”- two incumbents drawn into the same seat.
The maps “double-bunk” current incumbents in 14 districts. Six would pit two Democrats facing each other. Five would have two Republicans in the same district. Three would have a Republican and a Democrat in the same district.
The six double-bunked Democratic incumbent districts would place:
- Former Speaker Joe Hackney and Rep. Verla Insko, both of Orange County, into one district.
- Reps. Grier Martin and Deborah Ross, both of Wake County, in one district.
- Reps. Rick Glazier and Diane Parfitt, both of Cumberland County, in one district.
- Reps. Patsy Keever and Susan Fisher, both of Buncombe County, in one district.
- Rep. Winkie Wilkins of Person County and Rep. Jim Crawford of Granville County into one district.
- Reps. Maggie Jeffus and Pricey Harrison, both of Guilford County, into one district.
The five double-bunked Republican incumbent districts would place:
- Rep. Efton Sager of Wayne County and Rep. Jimmy Dixon of Duplin County into one district.
- Rep. Mitch Gillespie of McDowell County and Rep. Phillip Frye of Mitchell County into one district.
- Rep. Mark Hollo of Alexander County and Rep. Darrell McCormick of Yadkin County into one district.
- Rep. Jeff Collins of Nash County and Rep. Glen Bradley of Franklin County into one district.
- Reps. Dale Folwell and Larry Brown, both of Forsyth County, into one district.
The three hybrid districts would place:
- Republican Tom Murry and Democrat Jennifer Weiss, both of Wake County, into one district.
- Republican Bill Cook of Beaufort County and Democrat Tim Spear of Washington County into one district.
- Republican G.L. Pridgen of Robeson County and Democrat Dewey Hill of Columbus County into one district.
