Schools, Reading Lists, Gay Porn & Your Child!

My parents have often said to me, “I don’t envy you raising a child in this day and age!”  And as my oldest child, especially, grows older I am realizing more and more the truth in those words.  The things that parents have to worry about in this day and age were inconsiderable to our parents and our grandparents.  Not only are we in day of super-technology- where our children have the possibility to be exposed to anything and everything- we are fighting a battle, literally a hand to hand combat, with the authority figures in our kid’s lives.

Parents are having to shoulder a burden of protection around their children like never before in our history.  Those of us who care about our kids can’t afford to take the lazy route and instead have to be hyper-vigilant and aware of every aspect of our kid’s lives.  I’m a parent who tries to monitor that which my child is being mentally bombarded with through popular songs, movies, television shows, and books.  I often get on my eleven year old’s nerves because he is often held to a higher standard than some of the kids around him at school.  I know the feeling well- as I had parents with similar views- and while I fully appreciate it now, at the time it didn’t make me happy.  I am firm believer that eventually “garbage in” results in “garbage out”– that which a man feeds himself- so he becomes.

And, while I try to loosen the reins at age appropriate times, being a parent out to protect their child these days is absolutely exhausting.  It’s so much easier to send them out in the world with a blind trust and a “hope” that they turn out okay.

But that’s dangerous.  Because there is a new social ideology that has infiltrated our children’s environment that is out to influence and indoctrinate your child with a new sense of social justice and views on everything from faith, political ideology, sex, drugs, and “alternative” lifestyles.  God, even in a general sense, has been banned from our schools and a new godless social philosophy ushered in.  Parental wars against school administrations, teachers, and school boards are being waged all over the country- with the latest being out of New Jersey.

A New Jersey school district has apologized to parents after requiring high school students to read books that include graphic depictions of lesbian sex and a homosexual orgy.

“Some of the language is inappropriate,” said Chuck Earling, superintendent of Monroe Township Schools in Williamstown, NJ. “We were not trying to create controversy. We were just trying to get students to read.”

The books were on a required reading list for middle school and high school students.

“There were some words and language that seemed to be inappropriate as far as the parents and some of the kids were concerned,” he said.

One book, “Norwegian Wood,” was on a list for incoming sophomores in an honors English class. The book included a graphic depiction of a lesbian sex scene between a 31-year-old woman and a 13-year old girl, according to a report first published in the Gloucester County Times.

“I don’t think that’s relevant for any teenager,” parent Robin Myers told the newspaper. Her daughter was assigned to read the book.

“I was just kind of in shock,” she said.

The other book in question was “Tweak: Growing up on Methamphetamines.” That book included depictions of drug usage and a homosexual orgy.

“That has created a controversy,” Earling told Fox News Radio, referring to the drug usage – along with the lesbian and gay sex scenes. “We’ve pulled them from our summer reading list.”

Peter Sprigg, with the Family Research Council, said he’s not surprised by the controversy surrounding the books.

“Here we see the intersection of parental values being offended, the hyper-sexualization of our youth and the homosexual agenda being pushed,” Sprigg told Fox News Radio. “This just illustrates why a lot of American parents are not willing to entrust their children to the public schools anymore.”

I wonder at the description that the superintendent used… “seemed to be inappropriate...” “Seemed to be?”  As if he just couldn’t put a definitive stance on it?  “Inappropriate?”  As if homosexual orgies (or any orgies, for that matter) might just be mildly crossing the line – instead of the blatant and disgusting reading choice that it actually is?

Again, thankfully there were some of those vigilant parents involved in this school who cared enough to take a look at what their children were reading, and then were concerned enough to get off the couch and wage war over it.  Nevertheless, can you imagine how many schools across our country that this is happening?

Parents, you have to get involved in your kid’s lives.  Find out what your schools are teaching.  Find out what your kids are reading!  This isn’t education- this is indoctrination.  And, if parents don’t care enough to stop it- than who will?
