Republicans Hold SC House District 100
Berkeley County Planning Commission Chairman Eddy Southard easily captured the District 100 South Carolina House of Representatives seat in a special election Tuesday, downing Moncks Corner Town Council Member Tonia Aiken-Taylor with almost 60 percent of the vote.
Southard, a Republican, tallied 2,157 votes (59.7) to Democrat Aiken-Taylor’s 1,450 (40.1).
The special election fills the seat vacated by the death of Rep. David Umphlett in May.
“I’m just glad its over,” Southard said with a big smile surrounded by family and supporters following the win. “I have some of the most amazing people in the world who worked on this and made it happen.”
Hopefully Southard will join the chorus for fiscal reform that swept national elections last year.
