By 2008, vice-presidential candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin had more executive experience in her little finger than did the whole of Barack Obama.  In 2012, presidential candidate Mitt Romney had a record of success in the private and public sector, also amassing more executive experience than the sitting president he opposed.  It didn’t seem to matter because half of the electorate chose their president as though they were voting for a reality TV show contestant.

Has America become enthralled with style over substance or have Americans simply given up doing any of their own research?  Has the pop culture become the opiate of the masses or have Americans simply become a bunch of asses?

Our nation is on a path toward becoming Greece because politicians refuse to deal with the mounting debt or the deficit spending, yet many of the guilty continue to enjoy re-election to office-including the chief executive who continues to blame everyone and everything else for our malaise.

In President Obama’s first term, he’s racked up 4 years of trillion-dollar deficits; he’s added over $5 trillion dollars to an already bloated national debt; the Federal Reserve’s Quantitative Easing program has eroded the value of the American Dollar; unemployment continues unabated around 8%.   This miserable record of failure somehow earned Mr. Obama another 4 years?

In an unfortunate twist of fate, the ones who will eventually pay the bill of the Obama years are the ones who overwhelmingly supported him in two election cycles, the 18-29 demographic.  In essence, they’ve voted to inherit less of an America than their parents had; they’ve voted to tax themselves out of prosperity in their prime earning years.  And when they reach their retirement years-assuming they’ll be able to retire-the IPAB component of nationalized healthcare will hang over their heads like the sword of Damocles.

 About that time, they’ll realize the error of their youthful ways and sadly shake their heads, recalling their grandparents’ lament of “youth is wasted on the young.”
