Senate seat needs 1,160 Valid signatures; Gayle Manning
(R) needs 50.
An independent wanting to run for Terry Boose’s (R) 57th
House seat needs 411 Valid signatures; Terry needs 50.
A Libertarian needs 25 for either!
The number of required valid signatures can change
depending on your district for independent candidates, but
remain the same for Ds, Rs or third party candidates.
1. Major party candidates: 50 signatures
2. Minor party candidates: 25 signatures
3. Independent candidates: Based on the number of votes
cast in the district in the last general election for governor.
Non-affiliated voters (independents) do not have a seat on
the Lorain County Board of Elections, nor are they
permitted to work the polls. They are all but locked out of
Ohio’s primary elections unless they agree to change their
voter registration to R, D, or a third party to get a ballot
with candidates.
