Hate To Bust Your Bubble, Trumpsters, But Not All Of Us Who Oppose Trump Are Establishment Elites

I’ve had a few days to think about the political disaster that’s unfolding. I have to say, I’m even more solidly #NeverTrump than I was before. And it’s not because the candidate I supported, Ted Cruz, didn’t win.

I knew it was an uphill battle for Cruz from the start. But then, I never imagined that people would actually believe he is the Zodiac Killer, whose killing spree happened before Cruz was even born, or that his father was involved in the assassination of JFK. Cruz didn’t lose because of his ideas or his policies, he lost because he was constantly smeared by an orange faced clown with authoritarian impulses and people actually bought it. I don’t know who I’m more disgusted with, Trump or the people who are buying into his charade.

And please, enough with saying those of us who oppose him are nothing but establishment shills. Quite a few establishment Republicans are falling over themselves to hop on the Trump Train. But the new narrative is the same as the old narrative, that the only Republicans who are #NeverTrump are the GOP elites. Sure, some of them are. I can’t say I blame them seeing that he’s blowing up their party. Bad as it is, the alternative is worse, and Trump supporters can’t stop reminding us of that now that he’s the presumptive nominee.

Everyone is supposed to forget that somewhere around 60% to 70% of Republican voters rejected him. We actually want to have a Republican candidate to vote for in November. Even a squishy RINO would be better than the choice we have now. I guess you can blame his stranger-than-fiction victory on the Republican establishment, at least in part. But still, turning it into the Party of Trump is a very bad idea. Geez, he doesn’t even know what policy positions are on his own website, he openly contradicts them. And every time he does so, his knee jerk positions are liberal.

The party he’s supposed to be leading is torn apart, and rather than doing something to build bridges and win us over he comes out and says he’ll take a look at the $15 an hour minimum wage. He’s said in the past he supports universal health care. He doesn’t talk about shrinking government, he talks about what government is going to do when he’s in charge. Does he ever talk about the Constitution? No, he’s just busy branding all of his opponents. “Little Marco.” “Lyin’ Ted.” “Crooked Hillary.” Yes, Hillary is crooked, but that one is like the pot calling the kettle black. Trump’s busy pulling off one of the biggest hoaxes in history and it’s sickening to see so many elected Republicans fall in line.

After attacking Ted Cruz because his wife Heidi worked for Goldman Sachs, Trump has now gone and hired a Golden Sachs alumnus and a former business associate of George Soros to lead his fundraising effort. What happened to the self-funded campaign? I guess that’s just one more thing for his angry mob of supporters to come up with excuses for.

To be fair, Trump does come up with some ideas that no Republican or Democrat would ever endorse. Like paying off the national debt by defaulting on it. Gee, I wonder why nobody ever thought of that before. Could it be that it’s completely batshit crazy?  He seems to think that all we need to do to Make America Great Again is to file Chapter 11. No wonder he won’t release his college transcripts.

But for me, and I’m sure millions of others, it’s about much more than that. It’s about more than his vulgar personality, his complete lack or morals, or his liberal leanings. It’s his promise to make that government boot on our necks a little bigger and heavier. Ace of Spades summed it up perfectly.

Read the whole thing, Ace isn’t #NeverTrump yet, but it sounds like he’s getting there. And I don’t think he’s part of the establishment. I know I’m not. Although I did get a personal email from the chairman of my county GOP committee, Tom Dadey, who also works for the state committee. I know him from the time I was on the local GOP committee, and our kids are in the same school. He sent a link to an article written by Wendy Long, who is running another long shot Senate bid, and asked if I wanted Hillary to win. (Wendy Long is all on board the Trump Train. Long compared Trump to Ronald Reagan, which kind of sickened me. Reagan was decent, had morals, and was part of the conservative movement for decades before he ran for president. Oh, and he didn’t get ahead by tearing apart other Republicans.)  So I thanked Tom for the information and told him that now I won’t vote for Long either. He responded by saying Trump’s going to win. I shot back that he’s made it clear he doesn’t need conservatives like me and I haven’t heard back.

That’s about as close to the establishment as I get – an email trying to bully me into voting for Trump.

I’m just a suburban wife and mother who started a blog in my spare time because I wanted a voice in the national conversation. My husband fixes people’s houses for a living. I keep the books for him and I have another job, so I’m not doing this for the money. I want my kids to have a better life than I’ve had, and the odds of that happening decline a little more every day that progressives hold power. Donald Trump is a progressive who had an inheritance and worked the system to his advantage, so his kids will be taken care of no matter what happens. My kids, and millions of others, don’t have that luxury. They won’t be able to buy off politicians to make better deals for themselves, and I hope they won’t use bankruptcy laws to get rich off of unsuspecting investors. I just want them to have the opportunity to use the knowledge and skills they acquire to build decent lives for themselves. I don’t see how Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton will help in that regard.

Anyway, I don’t know what I’m going to do with this blog. It’s mostly a burden these days. I’ve put a lot into it, and for what? Trump, who isn’t conservative in any way, shape, or form, is suddenly the face of the conservative movement, whether we want him to be or not. I’m going to have to sleep on it, maybe for quite a few nights, before I make up my mind.

In the mean time, check the #NeverTrump hashtag on Twitter to see how “establishment” it is. Oh, and if you’re a Trump supporter in one of the states that hasn’t yet held a primary, he wants you to sit it out and save your vote for the general election. I think you should listen to him.

*As a side note, thanks to this Trump Train Wreck there hasn’t been very much coverage of how Obama has been deceiving Americans for years on foreign policy. In a very despicable way. Trump probably approves of the tactic, seeing how he just brought on board a foreign policy adviser who helped to sell that deception. But I’m supposed to fall in line and unify. No thanks.

*Another side note: Trump’s odds of winning in November have been seriously downgraded. Don’t blame me, I have a small audience. If Hillary Clinton wins it’s his fault, and the fault of the people who bought what he was selling.

*One more side note to those who like Trump because he fights. What is he going to fight for? Eminent domain? Funding Planned Parenthood? A health insurance mandate? A tariff that will drive up the cost of everything you buy? Making sure Social Security remains insolvent?
